Monday with Mozart

I have been sitting here looking at this blank page for a while now and it refuses to fill itself up on its own, dammitall!  So I suppose I should pretend I have something to say when in reality I am  utterly devoid of inspiration and no witty commentary is bursting forth from the bushes to rescue me either.  I hope you guys had a fabulous weekend, I think mine went bye bye without even stopping to say hello, lol.  Anyway, even without pithy commentary or newsworthy events upon which to expound, your intrepid Uncle still has Music a& Men up his sleeve to share with you all today.  

As usual we begin the week with our regular Monday with Mozart feature which this week has a live recital recording by Dezső Ránki from 1997 with an all Mozart program.  The play list includes:

Monday, Mozart & Men!

I worked my regular shift yesterday, then after dinner the boss called.  Our regular night guy had called in sick and could I help him out?  Of course I said yes, why would I turn down extra hours when I can get them?  So I worked the overnight shift also.  I napped for a couple of hours this morning before getting up to put this together for you guys.  I haven't check the news or the scoreboard so I could not tell you what has or has not happened in the world, but I do have some Marvelous Mozart and Gorgeous Guys for our mutual edification.  

For your Monday with Mozart, this week we offer his Complete Set of Church Sonatas.  Mozart wrote seventeen Church Sonatas (sonata di chiesa), also known as Epistle Sonatas, between 1772 and 1780. These are short single-movement pieces intended to be played during a celebration of the Mass between the Epistle and the Gospel.  Three of the sonatas (Nos.12,14,17), include oboes, horns, trumpets and timpani. The rest are scored for organ and strings (with no violas, only two violins and basso continuo), where in some of them (Nos 7-10,13-15,17) the organ has an obbligato solo part, while in the sonatas Nos 1-6,11,12,16, the organ accompanies along with the figured bass.  The performance artists are not listed, however I believe them all to be in some way associated with the Universistat Mozarteum Salzburg.  Additional Marvelous Mozart can be heard over on my tumblr with the 1975 Murray Perahia and the English Chamber Orchestra performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto Number 24 in C Minor, K 491.

Issues

I sat down to try to write something several times yesterday without much success.  I finally gave up in frustration at my inability to put words on a page thinking I would regroup and try again today.  Unfortunately, inspiration seems to be fleeing my presence this week as I struggle with the attempts to competently fill the page with something interesting to say.  

Physically I am doing better although I am still having some issues with wildly swinging blood sugar levels, bouncing between way too low and way too high.  I have not been able to come to a happy medium consistently, so I am having to monitor my counts 3 times a day and adjust my medications according to the counts.  I have been keeping an eye on my blood pressure also, but that seems to be staying within the range that is safe for me.  I am really glad they gave me a machine so I can monitor that at home on regular basis. 

One thing I have not had an issue with is the selection of which piece of great classical music I should present to you on a daily basis.  Since I started posting classical music videos, I have come to appreciate not only the great masters of classical music but many lesser known composers who wrote some really terrific music.  Today's Musical Moment features the Music of one of the great composers, George Friedrich Handel.  Since this is Wet Wednesday, I thought his Water Music Suites would be a great choice for today.  The Suite in F major; the Suite in G major and the Suite in D major are performed by the English Baroque Soloists under the baton of John Eliot Gardiner.  Over on my tumblr, you may hear Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks performed by the English Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Raymond Leppard.
