W10 & Witcher 3

As most of you know by now, I am not a gamer, that is Will's forte, not mine.  He is also my go to Geek when I run across something I don't understand or fuck something up.  He speaks techno-geek, nerdish and pcsnobbish with the best of them.  Will is currently playing Witcher 3 which has superior graphics and requires a large speedy video card like Will's GTX970.  Well Witcher 3 has been crashing on Will ever since the W10 install.  Through a painful trial and error process Will discovered the problem.  W10 'babysits' your device drivers and upgrades them automatically through Windows Update.  This is all well and good except if you have hardware whose software support is not yet W10 compatible.   W10 was overriding Will's settings and installing a beta version of the driver for the GTX970, thus undoing everything he had done to solve the problem thus far.  He discovered this when he caught Windows Update in the act.  He has thoughtfully provided us with his instructions for a solution that he posted on the either the Witcher 3 or W10 Sub-Reddit, I don't remember which one he said.  Here it is:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is important so PAY ATTENTION.
Microsoft is pushing a Beta driver 352.63 down Windows Update. Windows Update is auto over-riding your drivers.
It is incredibly difficult to stop this.
I found this out after getting multiple crashes, despite rolling back the driver to previous versions. I caught Windows Update, installing GTX 970 update when it was checking for updates.
It has been over-riding my driver in my sleep!
I don't know about the rest of you, but I do not need Windows 10 to be my parent.
So, how do we fix it. This is going to be a doozy so stick with me.
Part 1:
Hit Winkey and type advanced system settings.
Should look like this:
 [1]
Select Hardware tab Select Device Installation Settings
Choose these settings:
[2]
This prevents Device manager from auto downloading hardware updates when you restart or aren't looking.
Part 2:
Now we move on to the next part. (Note this is only if it has over-ridden your driver, if it hasn't move down to part 3.)
Hit winkey and type in Device Manager and launch that.
Find your display adapter and then right click it
Select Uninstall and also the little box to delete software
Wait
After it is removed from the list, select "Scan for Hardware Changes"
Reboot computer
You are now ready to install the driver you want to install, so do that.
Reboot again.
Part 3:
Go here and get this tool: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930?utm_source=twitter[3]
This enables showing/hiding of updates coming down Windows Update.
If you followed all my instructions correctly at this point and it's not checking for updates. You should be able to run this tool and find the driver update to hide.
This is how:
Launch the .cab file, it will look like this:
[4]
Select Next It will begin searching for updates so wait patiently.
Select Hide Updates
[5]
You should see this (Note, I'm actually under Show Hidden Updates here but that is because I already hid the update earlier, this is how you unhide updates but you want to be under Hide Updates)
[6]
Select the driver update to hide
Say Next.
It should tell you it has completed successfully and will not install that update.
That's it,
Happy Witchering.
Edit: Current Beta Driver is 352.63 as of this post.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That's it straight from the horse's mouth as it were, it is even in English not techno-geek, lol.  So if you have been experiencing this type of situation with your version of W10 conflicting with your hardware's drivers, this is a solution that will work for you.   Leave a comment if you have an alternate solution that works for you!

Freak Out Over

I managed to get over my Friday Freakout about having to inject myself with Insulin on a daily basis when I bit the bullet on Saturday night and stuck myself for the first time.  There was a small momentary prick, but no real pain involved, so I was pleased that I actually did it without causing myself any actual pain.  Sunday's injection went even better with no pain at all.  The syringes that the VA has provided for me have an ultra-fine needle which makes for easier insertion than some of the older type syringes with bigger needles. I may not like the idea of having to inject myself on a daily basis, however I no longer fear it.  This is progress for someone who has as great a dislike for needles as I.  I have also noticed a dramatic decrease in my blood sucrose numbers which is the point of adding Insulin to my regimen in the first place.  I will be interested to see the 3 month average when next I go to the doctor.  On Friday's visit my average was 217.  It is supposed to be below 130.  This should also lower my triglycerides which were at 262 and should be under 200.  I am hoping that the 3 month average results will show the same dramatic decreases I experienced over the weekend in my daily numbers.  We shall see.

This week, your Monday with Mozart features the Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K622 with a live performance by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra,  Manfred Honeck conducting and Sharon Kam as your Clarinet Soloist.  You may also hear Mozart's Oboe Concerto in C Major, KV314 over on my tumblr.

Then, on display below the video is this week's edition of hunks and hotties in their finest Monday's Undies for you to cruise and peruse.  Additional inspiration may be found in the Hottie of the Day! over on my tumblr.  Thanks for stopping by, see you again tomorrow.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!

Saint Patrick's Day

Today is Saint Patrick's Day.  Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the "Apostle of Ireland", he is the primary patron saint of the island.  Saint Patrick's Day is observed on 17 March, the date of his death.  It is celebrated inside and outside Ireland as a religious and cultural holiday. In the dioceses of Ireland, it is both a solemnity and a holy day of obligation; it is also a celebration of Ireland itself.  However, on this side of the pond, it is most often a day (or weekend) to pretend you are Irish.  The day (or weekend) is usually given over to revelry and drunkenness, much akin to that other 'religious' holiday, Mardi Gras (aka Carnivale south of the border).  The absence of snakes in Ireland gave rise to the legend that they had all been banished by St. Patrick chasing them into the sea after they attacked him during a 40-day fast he was undertaking on top of a hill.  This hagiographic theme draws on the Biblical account of the staff of the prophet Moses. In Exodus 7:8–7:13, Moses and Aaron use their staffs in their struggle with Pharaoh's sorcerers, the staffs of each side morphing into snakes. Aaron's snake-staff prevails by consuming the other snakes.  In any case, I hope you have a fabulous day whichever way you choose to celebrate (or not).

This week's Monday with Mozart features the Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet in A Major, KV581.  Today's performance is by Valter Vitek on Clarinet in performance with the Kubin Quartet recorded live in Ostrava, Czech Republic in 1989.  You may also hear Maurizio Pollini performing Mozart's Piano Concerto Number 23 in A Major over on my tumblr.

On display below the video in this week's collection of muscly men in the Monday's Undies for your visual appreciation.  Be sure to check out today's Hottie of the Day! over on my tumblr.  Thanks for starting your week here at Nichevo, see you again tomorrow.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
