It's Friday and I am Ready for my Weekend!

I had a great day off yesterday.  Even with all my usual payday chores and errands I managed to work in a nap and an 8 hour sleep session.  As a result, I feel well rested going into Friday truck night, then it is on to the Weekend!  I have no specific plans, but time off is time off and I plan on enjoying myself!  But first, I have some Music and some Men to share with you today.  

Here of late I have come to really appreciate the works of Czech Composer Bedrich Smetana.  I have to great live performances for your listening pleasure today.  First up down below,  you will find the opening concert of the 2015 Prague Spring Concert Series with the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg,
Thomas Hengelbrock Conducting.  Their performance?  One of Bedrich Smetana's greatest symphonic triumphs, his salute to his Czech homeland 'Ma Vlast (My Country)'.  It is a marvelous suite and a beautiful performance.  Over on my tumblr is one of Smetana's more intimate works.  The Seoul String Quartet Concert was held at Chamber Hall of Seoul Arts Center on December the 8th, 2011 as they perform Smetana's String Quartet Number 1 "From My Life".  The Seoul String Quartet members are Violin Wayne Lin; Violin A-Rah Shin; Viola Hung-Wei Huang & Cello Sangmin Park.

Tuesday's Music and Men

Monday was a seemingly endless day that sallied into the night leaving me all tuckered out by the time I returned home this morning.  So I took a nap, a long nap as it turns out.   I guess I needed the rest.  However that does not mean I get to skip a day just to be lazy.  I do have some great music and gorgeous guys lined up for you, so lets get to it.  

Peter van de Graaf, the Music Through The Night host on WRR was featuring Czech composers all program long.  I have also been hearing excerpts from Bedrich Smetana's masterpiece 'Ma Vlast' (My Homeland) on Venice Classic Radio a lot lately.  Therefore you are getting a goodly dose of Bedrich Smetana today.  Smetana was a Czech composer who pioneered the development of a musical style which became closely identified with his country's aspirations to independent statehood. He is thus widely regarded in his homeland as the father of Czech music. Internationally he is best known for his opera The Bartered Bride; for the symphonic cycle Má vlast ("My Homeland"), which portrays the history, legends and landscape of the composer's native land; and for his First String Quartet, From My Life.  Posted down below is the Eterna recording of the complete 'Ma Vlast' cycle.  Recorded on 16th October 1967 in the Heilandskirche, Leipzig, it was first released in 1968.  This version is taken from the Eterna double LP 8 25 931-932 from 1973.  The performance is by the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig under the baton of  Václav Neumann.  Over on my tumblr, the Smetana Quartet performs his famous String Quartet Number 1 in E Minor "From My Life".

Random Hotness

I had a peaceful and restful day off yesterday which was needed after all the lunacy from the night before.   Tonight is once again truck night, so here is hoping that the lunacy has retreated and normalcy will somehow prevail.  This morning Will has a dental appointment so I will be leaving in a few to take care of that.   I am feeling rather random this morning, therefore I changed up the usual Tuesday eye candy by selecting some photos that don't necessarily fit in with any major theme, although they are excellent examples of Random Hotness for you to examine.  To accompany all this random beauty, I have I have a video of a Classic 1951 recording of the String Quartet in E Minor 'From My Life' by Czech composer Bedrich Smetana performed by The Dutch String Quartet of Nap de Klijn, Violin; Johan van Helden, Violin; Paul Godwin, Viola; and Caerl van de Leeuwen Boomkamp, Cello.  Have a beautiful day and we will see you here tomorrow.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
