The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

As you can surmise from the title, we have a mixed bag of news this morning so we will start off with the good news.  The Nevada State Assembly passed the final vote for this year on the Marriage Equality bill passed by the Senate 12-9 in April. 

 The Review Journal reports: Senate Joint Resolution 13 passed the Assembly on a 27-14 vote, bringing the process to get it to the ballot in 2016 to an end for this year. All the no votes were Republicans. Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, R-Las Vegas, voted with Democrats.

The proposed amendment must pass again in identical form in the 2015 legislative session before it can go to the ballot. Gov. Brian Sandoval’s signature is not required.

The proposal would remove Nevada’s current prohibition on same-gender marriage from the state constitution, and add new language recognizing same-gender marriage.

It also includes a provision to guarantee that religious organizations do not have to perform such unions.

Then there is the sorta good news that the Boy Scouts of America, in a half step towards Equality,  passed a resolution lifting the ban on openly Gay scouts but keeping the ban on Gay leaders and Parents.  So you can be a Gay Boy Scout but when you turn 18 you then become a pariah and a possible pedophile so you can't play with the boys any longer.  

The bad news is the homophobic tweet by everyone's favorite AFA Spokeshater, Bryan Fisher sent out upon hearing the news:

BSA now stands for Boy Sodomizers of America, because that's what will happen. Mark my words.

However it gets worse, downright ugly even when you read some of the comments over at the conservative Free Republic:

They can go to hell. But they want to take the kids with them.

The end of scouting. When will the sodomy merit badge be coming?

Great, the scouts are now the Village People. :(

The homo-nazi’s have won. But they will really celebrate all the more as chapter after chapter close up and the entire organization implodes.

Unbelievable..let the molestation begin..if I had a young boy I sure as hell would never put him in Scouts..mind as well put a target on his back and say “Molest me”

and what happens after there are endless reports of gay boy scouts hitting on other scouts? Sexual assault? The number of parents suing the BSA will be through the roof. No child should be subject to this type of filth.

 For the life of me, I do not understand conservative and wing nut obsession with Gay sex.  They do not seem to believe that LGBT people are not the sex crazed maniacs they think we are.  Just because as 'straight' people they froth at the mouth at every skirt that passes their way, they automatically assume that we Gays as a group do the same thing to everything in pants.  I have news for them, most Gay fellows I know would not get hot and bothered about some sour ass old windbag whose only concept of Gay people is one big butt fucking contest.  Me thinks some of them doth protest too much and are trying to cover their suppressed same sex desires by babbling ridiculous statements like those above.  Speaking for myself, I have a lot more self control than any of those guys seem to possess and pride myself on the fact that I have never slept with anyone that did not want to sleep with me.  I have also never played the fear and power rape card, ever.  I wonder how many of them can say the same thing!  Hmmmmmm?

Happy May Day!

 Welcome to the merry month of May which starts out with a bang up bunch of good news.  First up today at 1 minute after Midnight, Civil Unions became the law of the land in the State of Colorado with hundreds of couples waiting in line to get their relationships legally recognized.  Then I received an email notifying me that Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra of the (damn)Yankees has joined forces with Hudson Taylor's Athlete Ally program to fight Homophobia in Sports.  Yogi Berra in reflection of the moment said “Respect the game, respect others – that's what I always learned in sports. Whatever background or whatever you are, it doesn't matter. Treat everyone the same, that's how it should be."  I agree one hundred per cent!!

After that, Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chaffee announced that he will sign the Marriage Equality bill into law in a ceremony Thursday afternoon at 5:45 after the procedural vote in the House.  This will bring the number of states with Marriage Equality to 10 plus the District of Columbia.  This will mean 20 percent of the states in the US will have full Marriage Equality before the Supreme Court even announces its ruling on Prop 8 and DOMA.  It could be a glorious summer for Equality!

There is also this piece that caught my attention:

Army Spc. Joe McGrath, who came home April 15 from a year-long deployment in Kuwait, and his father Dave, a former Army Airborne Ranger, are taking on the Boy Scouts, Idaho's Local8 News reports:

These two warriors are home now, in Idaho Falls together. Now, father and son are about to fight one of those wars that don't look like war. "I have six sons, two of whom are gay," said Dave McGrath. "I have an identical twin brother who is an Eagle Scout, and he's gay."

Thinking about his family, a typically talkative Dave McGrath edges on with a quieter tone. "I love the Boy Scouts," he said. "I wish them all the best, and yet they discriminate against people I love." 

Dave McGrath is a lifetime scout -- but right now the honor weighs heavy on his shoulders He knows not everybody can be one. "Some of us have gay people that we love," he said.

Father and son will bike 1,800 miles to Boy Scout headquarters so McGrath can pin his "95 objections to their stupid policy" on the door.
