Several good things happened for equality yesterday that are worthy of note. In Hawaii, Governor Abernathy signed Civil Unions into law stating "E Komo Mai: it means all are welcome in Paradise" which is a step forward over the last governor who veto the same rights. In Maryland the State Senate voted to approve the Same Sex Marriage bill so it could be sent on to the Assembley where it is also expected to pass. Then in Washington, D C, the President instructed the Department of Justice to no longer defend DOMA in courts declaring parts of it Unconstitutional. This indeed is a step forward although the act itself still needs to be repealed. Now if we could get the powers that be to stop enforcing DADT and trying to recoup their losses by billing discharged veterans to pay for the stupidity of their separation from service, things would be even more right in this world. We are making progress, slow as it may be at times. but each step forward puts us that much closer to equality. We still have a long way to go, but each journey begins with a single step, let's keep taking those steps forward so we will eventually reach the goal of true equality under the law.
I put together an eclectic mix of cello pieces for your entertainment to day from composers J S Bach, Luigi Boccherini, Edward Elgar, Adam Hurst and Giovanni Sollima. Performances are by Adam Hurst, Jacqueline Du Pre, Giovanni Sollima and Yo Yo Ma with the Boccherini piece being from the Master and Commander movie soundtrack album. The videos also feature some imaginative film making and some classic artworks from artist such as Vincent Van Gough on the Du Pre video.
