Homophobia, Hip Hop, Hardaway And The War

This last Wednesday CNN's Paula Zahn did a story on Hip Hop artists and one of the artists interviewed was the Gay Rapper Deadlee. In a genre rife with artists ready to bash Gays just because they're Gay, Deadlee stands up for all of us. The artist has done much to promote Latino and Black musicians in the Hip Hop field as well as working with Gay youth organizations. Here is an artist who is to be admired for the courage of his convictions as well as his immense talent. Presented for you here is interview on CNN and his video, Good Soldier II, which was his debut video which is about the feelings and issues faced by gay youth. It has been a weird week for me full of ups, downs and turnarounds. Needless to say, one of the things not getting done this week was regular posts here at Nichevo. I apologize for this but time has not been on my side this week. There was lots in the news including this interview with Tim 'I Hate Gays' Hardaway by Scoop Jackson on ESPN's page 2. Hardaway tries to explain away his diarrhea of the mouth in the wake of his little hate speech and the loss of privileges and endorsements caused by his statement. Every one should get a second chance, but I am not sure if the man is sincere or just trying to cover his a**. Read for yourself and make up your own mind.

Meanwhile in Washington the Democrats are about to push a bill rescinding the authorization for George's war and the British are starting to pull out but not before they send Prince Harry over there to do his bit for Queen and Country. Too bad George can't see his way out of a paper bag much less be able to admit that this whole thing is a disaster and will only get worse as time goes by. Is it just me or does he seem to get dumber by the day? If we don't watch out we won't have an army left when we do need it. The next election cannot come too soon.

February Mystery Guest

Today, as promised earlier in these pages, I would like to introduce to you February's Mystery Guest. I met this gentlemen on My Space when he requested to be my friend. I view his profile and watched his videos. I then wrote asking if I could post his videos on Nichevo. He said to wait until February as by then his My Space page would be ready. His name is Kai Miano, a composer and pianist from Germany. I have four of his videos here for you today. The first is his latest video shot in Italy, the second is an interview/making of the Italian video, the third and fourth are earlier concert videos with the Frankfurt Synphoniker. Kai's music is melodic and ethereal, or as he says romantic and dreamed. Wrote his first song at age 7 and continues to write prolifically and plays beautifully. He takes his inspiration from many sources, one of them being his son Andreas in the case of From Fairy Elfs and Wizards, the fourth video. Angelique, Johnny, and Ted

I have had a couple of surprises today so I thought I would share them with you. I got home from work and checked my email and found a new friend request from My Space. I went over to my homepage to check out the profile and I found a beautiful woman who could sing. Where she found me I don't know yet but her name is Angelique Kidjo. Her music as described on her profile is Afro beat / Nu Jazz / Pop and I could swear her song Tumba has a real Latin influence. She sings in a variety of languages, I know the duet with Dave Matthews is in French and English but I am not sure of the others. You can listen to the songs here, there are four of them. In what is a first for Nichevo, I have a woman as the lead photo, but I though you should see her here first then go check out her music at the link above. After adding her as my friend, I went to check out my friends pictures, I was stunned then delighted at what I found there.

A while ago when cruising around My Space I found the profile of one of my all time favorite actors whose career I have followed avidly for many years since I first saw him on the small screen in a teen heart throb role lo these many years ago. So I put in a request to be his friend never thinking that he would respond to much lest approve my request. He hasn't been on in a while so I had almost forgot that I had requested him as a friend. So this handsome actor whom I have admired for so many years approved my friend request and so now I can say Johnny Depp is my friend on My Space. I t just go to show you that you never know what you will get until you ask. Johnny has been a favorite of mine since 21 Jump Street and I have seen all of his movies. He can do funny, he can do sad, serious, camp, straight and narrow. You can check out his My Space page here. Oh and he's not too bad to look at either.
