Systems Upgrade On The Way!

I have been talking some time about upgrading our computer systems here at the house.  Well the idea has come to fruition as the concept and the funding achieved critical mass on Monday.  The original plan was to upgrade Nichevo somewhat while Will saved for the latest and greatest for Xanatos.  With the influx of income from my side job, our savings have grown rapidly the idea begetting an even more grandiose plan.  Will and I decided to combine our savings which will result in a dramatic new computing platforms for our daily use.  

Our combined funds allowed will to replace his current AMD FX6350 3.9 6 core processor on a Asus 999FX Chip Set with 16 GB of DDR3 RAM with a state of the art Intel Gaming platform.  He is getting the Core I7 6700k 'Skylake' processor on an Asus Z170 Chip Set with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM.  He will upgrade his case later on.  His current platform is light years ahead of my set up as far as capability and performance is concerned, so it was decided that instead of procuring a lesser Motherboard and Processor, I would instead replace my tower and power supply as well as getting a new monitor, installing Xanatos' current chipset, processor and RAM into the new case. 

Will chose a  Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case with a SILVERSTONE Strider Plus ST50F-P 500W ATX 12V v2.3 & EPS 12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply.  I really like Will's monitor so I decided to get one just like it, its an ASUS VS Series VS238H-P Black 23" 2ms HDMI LED Backlit Widescreen LCD Monitor which will be like going from sketches with colored pencils to museum quality oil paintings in one fell swoop.  I will then transfer all my peripherals to the new case, ending up with a a zippy wow new sports car to replace my clunky old economy coupe.  

We spent a healthy chunk of change but we both feel the investment would be so very worth it considering the enhancements it will bring to us on a daily basis.  The packages should be arriving fairly quickly and by this time next week both Xanatos 2.0 and Nichevo 2.0 will be speeding down the electronic pathways of the Internet to gaming glory and blogging heaven.  

Now with all this furious activity swirling around me, I did not really have time to prepare a proper New Adventures in Good Music for this week.  However, I did get a little adventurouse with the Music portion of this post nonetheless.  I decided to go with some Contemporary Classical Compositions from Welsh Composer Karl Jenkins, who is still alive and making Music today.  Posted down below is his Requiem album.  Released in 2005, Requiem is an  includes two works by Jenkins: his Requiem and In These Stones Horizons Sing.  That performance is by the West Kazakhstan Philharmonic Orchestra Conducted by the Composer and it is definitely not what you typically think when you think Requiem.  .  Over on my tumblr I have Jenkins' remastered Adiemus ( Songs of Sanctuary) album with that performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Robert St John Wright.

New Adventures in Good Music

Today on New Adventures in Good Music, we travel from mountain vistas surrounding Schubert's Vienna to the City of Lights, Paris, France.  Not only do we travel the seven hundred some odd miles but also a few hundred years from the time of Schubert to the present day.  I have featured some of the world's greatest composers in this series, but today I would like to explore the Music of one of our many Contemporary Classical Composers.  While yet at the tender age of 20, Coretin Boissier is already an award winning Composer and Concert Pianist.

Corentin was born in January 1995 to Laure and Denis Boissier in Suresnes near Paris.  He saw his first Piano at the age of 6, beginning immediately to improvise, listening to at least 2 hours of Classical Music each day.  At 7, he began learning  English and Chinese;  He also wrote  and recorded his first 'compositions'.  At the age of 9, his Professor at the Conservatoire de Puteaux, Thierry Escaich writes to his parents: "Corentin already has real qualities that will make him a complete musician. He already has a real sense of color Harmonic, a sense of the invention and especially of renewal, a rhythmic invention - in short, a variety of mind openings that suggest a real creative temperament. ".  Corentin also began learning computer aided composition and wrote the Finale software for that purpose.  

At age 12 he entered the Regional Conservatory of Boulogne-Billancour where at fifteen, Michèle Ejnes composer and harpist educational advisor at the CRR of Boulogne-Billancourt, wrote to his parents: "How to convey the intense musical emotion that I just live listening Alice in Wonderland, the concertino for harp Corentin, your son, has composed and dedicated to me. Original instrumentation, in keeping with the theme, originality and multiplicity of ideas that are full of thematic richness, it is a musical gem. Send to Corentin my warm congratulations for his compositions, I have a reputation for being very difficult and challenging in my musical choices, with the "Concertino" Corentin exceeded the rational barrier to directly reach the emotional music, so difficult to touch, especially for a  professional who has uncompromisingly judged  young musicians for 40 years."

In 2011 while learning counterpoint and harmony with Composer Stephen Delplace, Corentin becomes a permanent staff member of Dr. Allan Ho of the University Edwardsville (USA, Southern Illinois) for Music for Piano and Orchestra: The Recorded Repertory.  He also appeared on You Tube fo the first time in an interview hosted by Jean Waterkeyn lasting 26 minutes.  He now has 4 collections of compositions on You Tube and you can discover more for yourselves by visiting his You Tube or his website.

Now to explore some of his Music the play list for today includes Three pieces for Piano by Corentin. First up is one of his earliest works, the Brothers Karamozov Concerto for Piano without orchestra. Karamazov was composed in 2007 when the Composer was 12 or 13. Then we have Boissier's Piano Sonata Number 1, "Romantica" composed in 2013 and his Piano Sonata Number 2 "Appasionata" composed just this year. Exciting New Contemporary Classical Music!

 

 

Happy Thursday all, it is pay day, so of course I am on the run as usual.  However I did want to stop in to share a wonderful new discovery  of mine.  I was in the mood for some mellow cello this morning when I went to You Tube and did a search on 'cello'.  to my delight I found some videos from a brilliant young composer from Norway, Peder B. Helland.  He writes beautifully melodic music for both solo and ensemble groupings reminiscent of the film scores of Ennio Morricone.  Her is Peder's description of what you will be hearing today:
