Looking Ahead, Puccini and Fantasy Fuel!

The boss asked me to double back and work at 5 yesterday, so I made no attempt to accomplish anything on line.  I opted for a little rest instead, not that I got all that much.  However, I will take what I can get when I can get it.  That leaves everything I was to have done yesterday still to be done, yet I feel disinclined to do so this morning.  I will probably still do it, but I won't like it, lol. Which brings us to today and the start of a new pay period and schedule.  For the last little while, I have had 3 days off while still getting nearly 40 hours a week.  That little slice of heaven is now over.

Starting today with my usual long shift from 5 -2.  I then return tomorrow at 5 and work until 11.  On Sunday, I finally get a day off this week, but only one.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday remain my 11-7 days with the addition of now doubling back and working a 5 pm on Thursdays until 8.  That is a scheduled 42 hours which with the vagaries of our staff's arrival times, will probably grow some what.  The extra hours are caused by the resignation of one of our weak links and the dismissal of the waste of breath that was taking up time, space and money but contributing little else.

I really should not bitch, it will help to advance my financial agenda which is fairly aggressive for the next few months .  The major item on the agenda is a major upgrade to the home of Nichevo.  I recently upgraded the RAM as a stop gap measure until new components can be purchased with which to build a new Nichevo platform.  The upgrade includes a new tower, motherboard, processor, RAM and power supply.  I already have two DVD Burners and a card reader plus assorted fans that I can combine with the new components to create Nichevo's new home.  The parts for which Will diligently searched and selected can be found in a wish list of sorts over at PCPartPicker a website that facilitates DIY folks who want to build their own computers by checking for compatibility issues between components.  As you can see from the list it will only be about $450 to complete the upgrade, which is really not so expensive when you consider the computing power I will receive in return for that small amount of money.  Small $$ in comparison to what I would spend retail for a machine with the same components prepackaged on the shelf.  By no means is this the only item on the financial agenda, but it is the largest and most important thing on the list.

Lunacy At Its Finest

Last night proved the old adage 'if there is a full moon, there will surely be someone to howl at it'.  It probably would have been alright if it was only 'someone' not 'everyone'!  We were fairly busy for a Sunday night when about 11 PM, all hell broke loose along about the same time as the commissary delivery arrived.  The store filled up with large groups of customers all clamoring for attention at the same time.  We sold 6 or seven pizzas in the span of about 5 minutes, selling them so fast I ran out of boxes and was making the boxes as the pizzas cooked.   (In our turbo chef oven it only takes 2 minutes to cook a refrigerated 14" pizza.)  Of course while this was going on we were trying to check in the commissary delivery and keep the great unwashed from overwhelming us at the same time.  One stellar nut case made himself a small Slurpee and left the tap open so that a snowman of watermelon lime Slurpee built up in the drip tray before we caught it, but not before it had proceeded to fall over and melt all over the floor.  Meanwhile various customer groups were vying to see who could make the most noise, distract you the most with their 'divide and conquer' method of thievery (you can't watch everyone at the same time!) and generally trash the place as best they could.  The cops showed up and even they were amazed at all the bluster and confusion that was going down.  They were actually looking for  a certifiably insane transient who had visited the store about an hour prior before he wandered off to whatever planet he was looking for.  It never really calmed down at all.  By the time the night crazies had gone into their drug or drunken hibernation stupor, the morning workers rush started, so we were basically slammed all night resulting in sales figures roughly equivalent to a Friday or Saturday which is twice what we would normally do on Sunday.  I know as a merchant, it is a good thing to be a busy store, but there is also such a thing as too much of a good thing.  By the time all was over and done with, Shan and I were both slap happy and worn completely out.  I was definitely ready to head for the hills when the first of the day shift finally showed up about 20 minutes into the shift.  (I was ever so glad it was my turn to get to be the first to go instead of having to wait until whatever time the second person decided to show up)  The second person scheduled was pissed off because her second shift relief the day before was an hour and a half late, so she was 'evening things out' by being late in return.  Believe me, I am glad I am Gay, as I can not understand feminine logic (I know, it's an oxymoron) or female standard time and if I was to be in a heterosexual relationship, I would probably be up on murder charges just from the sheer frustration of dealing with such an irrational thought process on a daily basis.  OK, end of rant, just had to get that off my chest.
