Me and My ...

...Mental Health have been at odds with each other for some time now.  My highs have been pretty good although infrequent.  However, my lows have predominated the landscape and plunged me to new dpths.  I have been in such a state that I had sought help and actually had an appointment at the VA to see a psychiatrist about 3 months ago.  Unfortunately, I had to work that day for the boss unexpectedly so I had to reschedule.  The reschedule date did not come up until last Wednesday, finally and not a moment too soon, either.  As I told my doctor in the early stages of our interview: "I have been clinging desperately to sanity hoping for this day to finally arrive.  Please, doc, I need some fucking help!"  Thankfully we had a marvelous interview and they are going to work with me to resolve some of the myriad of issues I have going on in my head at any given moment.  

I have not been sleeping well and my appetite has been shit for months now.  So they set me up on a couple of new medications to help me sleep and regain a normal appetite.  I am sleeping better but not as much a Will thinks I should,  however, it does say on the bottle it could take 3 to 4 weeks to see significant improvement in the sleep and appetite sectors of my life as it also begins to smooth out the bumps in the road so I am not going from brief highs to long lonesome valleys of terror before arising to the light once again.  I know it will be a long slow road to wherever it is that I am needing to go, but I am willing and ready to make that journey.  Still, my mental state is fragile at the moment, so I will be sticking to the MWF and Sunday posting schedule as much as is possible for now.  I may miss some posts from time to time some 'me' time, which is what I did last week.   So bear with me and I will take you along on my journey and show you the highlights along the way.

Turning to your Monday with Mozart, today features a marvelous live recording of one of Mozart's masterworks.  The Symphony No. 38 in D major, K. 504, was composed by Mozart in late 1786.  It was premiered in Prague on January 19, 1787, a few weeks after Le nozze di Figaro opened there.  It is popularly known as the Prague Symphony.  Mozart's autograph thematic catalogue bears December 6, 1786, as the date of composition.  This performance is by  Concentus Musikus Wien under the baton of Nikolaus Harnoncourt recorded live in Prague.  Over on my tumblr, I have a classic performance of Mozart's Concerto for 3 Pianos, K 242 by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra featuring Soloists Andras Schiff, Daniel Barenboim and Sir Georg Solti who also conducts from the keyboard.

Hope Arises With Romo's Return

For the first time in 8 weeks a lot of good things happened for the Dallas Cowboys yesterday.  The long awaited return of Quarterback Tony Romo to the starting lineup was certainly the most welcome news of the weekend.  The day also marked the return of both Sean Lee and Rolando Blackmon to the defensive lineup.  The trio's return sparked a revitalized Cowboys team forward to victory over the Miami Dolphions, 24-14.  Yes they actually won the game!!!!  To be sure, it was not a perfect outing, Tony threw 2 interceptions to go with his two touchdowns.  However as great players always do in any sport, Tony made everyone around him better just by being there.  

The defense got the ball rolling after Tony's 1st interception when Roloado Blackmon stepped in front of a Miami pass and did not stop running until he scored giving the Cowboys the early lead.  A lead they never relinquished all day.  They let the Dolphins back in the game toward the end of the first half after their 2nd Touchdown by way of a penalty and a short kickoff.  That resulted in a Miami TD to close the half.  

The Dolphoins tied the game early in the third quarter but never managaed to mount anything after that as the Dallas D got tough and snuffed out any whiff of a drive the rest of the day.  The Cowboys did not answer the Miami score until the opening moments of the 4th quarter via a Romo to Dez Bryant thing of beauty that ended in the End Zone.  The Cowboys ran the Dolphins in the ground for the rest of the day and they also tacked on an insurance FG to salt away their first win since week 2 and Romo's injury.  The next test comes in 4 days and it is a gargantuan one as the undefeated Carolina Panthers come to the table for Thanksgiving.  Should be a great game to fill my  afternoon while preparing our ham and turkey feast for consumption.  Hope for a better 2nd half of the season springs eternal with Romo's return and none are more glad to see it than I.   (I must be a real optimist to think we stand a snowball's chance in hell of getting to the play offs, but stranger things have happened in the NFL.  We shall wait and see.  

Your Monday with Mozart features a 1994 recording by the Japan Shinsei Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Rudolph Barshai.  Their performance is of the Piano Concerto Number 18 in B Flat Major, KV 456.  The Soloist for this performance is Sviastislav Richter.  Over on my tumblr I have another classic recording, this one from 1974 with an augmented Grumiaux Trio performing Mozart's String Quintet Number 3 in G Minor, KV516.

It was...

... an exceedingly strange weekend filled with lots of unpleasant happenings.  None of which would I even entertain the thought of repeating any time soon.  Suffice it to say that nothing transpired over the weekend of a positive nature and today I am in full recovery mode.  That being said, I still have been able, in a few disjointed efforts pieced together throughout my day, to gather the various elements of this post.  Now all that is left is to put it all in one place and publish.  Not so easy on a Monday when the world insists on intruding whether you are ready or not.  So here goes the good stuff:

Because I did not make to these pages with a Sunday Morning Concert, your Monday with Mozart features live concert footage for your listening pleasur.  Posted down below is 26 year old violinist from Ukraine, Oleksii Semenenko performing Mozart’s ‘Concerto No. 5 in A Major, KV. 219’ in the Semi-Finals of the 2015 Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition in Brussels.  Recorded live with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie.  Oleksii went on to be awarded 2nd prize after the Final Round.  Over on my tumblr, the same orchestra accompanies 18 year old American VC ‘Young Artist’, Stephen Waarts performing Mozart’s ‘Concerto No. 4 in D Major, KV. 218’, also in the Semi-Finals.  Stephen was awarded 5th prize.

Yucky Monday

Yesterday was not one of my better days.  It was cold, rainy and yucky all day.  While it is true that those nearest and dearest to us give us the most joy.  They are also the ones that can most easily drive us bat shit crazy.  Yesterday was an excellent example of this.  In addition to the weather being most unpleasant, my Dallas Cowboys lost a infinitely boring game to the Seattle Seahawks at home 13-12.  Also, Will and I seemed to be at cross purposes all day resulting in a lot of angry words and a whole lot of stress.  Any time I get that stressed and angry, I always pay a physical price for it later on or the next day.  

Today I had to pay that piper, awaking fatigued and shortly afterward having multiple unpleasant emissions from various regions of my body.   So I went back to bed and slept all day to about 2:30.  I am feeling much better but not really ready to take on the world yet.  But I have managed to pull together the Music and the Men for today so let's get  to that and then I think I will go back to bed for a little more rest before work tonight.  

Your Monday with Mozart features the late, renowned Austrian pianist Friedrich Gulda performing 2 Mozart Piano Sonatas. His first interpretation is of # 9, K.311 in D major followed by # 12, K.332 in F major.  Over on my tumblr Vlatseslav Novikov and Anastasia Injushina perform the Sonata in D Major for Two Pianos, KV 448, which Mozart himself performed with Josepha Auernhammer in November 1781 represents the crowning glory of his compositions for two pianos in its panache and its irresistible drive.

And Away We Go!

After several days of rain, Monday has dawned clear, crisp, bright and beautiful.  If it wasn't a Monday with clouds expected to move in, it would be a perfect fall day.  But it is Monday and most of us have to head back to our assigned drudgery wonderful work places, including me.  However, I really like my regular work schedule which we are finally back to once again.  I work Monday - Wednesday and Friday with Thursdays and the Weekends off.  Although with my 'part time  profession' taking up more and more time, the schedule does get a bit crowded at times as you can tell from the erratic timing of my posts the last few weeks.  Hopefully my work schedule will continue to be the same or not changed too drastically for the time being.

 Because of my hectic schedule, the rain and the computer builds Will and I accomplished over the weekend, I have managed to procrastinate on my chores and errands making today the day I have to pay the piper.  That means I am going to start the week with a another busy day trying to get this all done and get some nap time in before work too.  So I best be getting started on that pretty quick like.  Before I run off though, I will leave you with you daily dose of Marvelous Music and Gorgeous Guys. 

Your Monday with Mozart features my favorite among Mozart's Symphonies, Number 40 in G Minor,  Today's performance is a public domain recording  by the Columbia University Orchestra.  Over on my tumblr, because I am in a symphonic mood this morning, I have Mozart's Symphony Number 33 in B Flat Major from a 1996 recording by the Bavarian State Orchestra.  The Bavarian State Orchestra is the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, one of the oldest and most prestigious orchestras in the world. Founded in 1523, it is one of the best German orchestras, rivaling the Berlin Philharmonic.  The German born, Austrian conductor Carlos Kleiber, (who passed away in 2004), who is widely regarded as being among the greatest conductors of the 20th century, conducts this classic performance.

Miscellaneous Music Monday

I had a great weekend and I am well rested.  My Monday has been busy as hell so far and I have been in and out all day.  I have slowly but surely put today's post together in between trips out and back.  So now I think I can put it all in one place and get it up for you guys to enjoy.  

I have a couple of  musical numbers today outside my usual Classical genre to share with you along with your Monday with Mozart feature.  First up, hunky Broadway singer Aaron Tveit (Les Miserables, Gossip Girl) has released a marvelous new rendition of Defying Gravity with Wicked's current Elphaba, Rachel Tucker.  Unfortunately I can find no way to embed the video from Buzzfeed here at Nichevo but you can catch it on Buzzfeed or Towleroad by clicking the links. 

Also courtesy of Towleroad.com is this beautiful Country tune from the Brothers Osborne, Stay a Little Longer.  The video celebrates the full spectrum of lovers including mixed age, mixed race and same sex couples all getting passionate with one another to a driving country beat.  Watch the beauty for yourself below:

Then of course we have Monday with Mozart which features the lovely and talented Anne-Sophie Mutter as she Solos and Conducts Camerata Salzburg in their performance of the Violin Concerto Number 3 in G Major, K.216 which was Mozart's "break out" concerto for Violin and Orchestra with its flamboyant French style in its opening movement.  Ms Mutter and Camerata Salzburg give a superb performance.  Over on my tumblr, I have Mozart's Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, K 498 played on Mozart's own instruments by Andras Schiff (Fortepiano); Erich Hobarth (Viola) and Elmar Schmid (Clarinet).

Monday

My weekend meandered mundanely to a close yesterday with a boring night at work.  Both the Cowboys, who lost miserably at home to the Patriots, and the Rangers who also lost at home, provided no happy faces anywhere in town.  The best part of the night was coming home and putting on a roast to cook while I watched the rebroadcast of SNF.  It was a good game pitting the SF Forty-Niners in New York to play the Giants.  The good news was that the Forty-Niners lost, the bad news is the Giants won.  It really does not matter all that much, they are just 1 game ahead of everyone else in our division.  The roast turned out perfectly in the NuWave Oven in just 2.5 hours.  I swear that it is the best thing I ever did for my kitchen.  

Anyway, that brings us to Monday with Mozart and the indulgence in our mutual Underwear Fetish.  First the Music.  Your Monday with Mozart features two of his String Quartets.  Posted down below is the String Quartet Number 23 in F Major, KV590, Composed in Vienna in June 1790.  The Quartet is dedicated to Friedrich Wilhelm II, King of Prussia.  That performance is by the Festetics Quartet.  Over on my tumblr, I have Mozart's String Quartet Number 16 in E Flat Major, KV428 (421b) which was Composed in Vienna in June or July 1783. Published in 1785 as Op. 10 No. 4 with a dedication to Joseph Haydn.  That performance is by the Mosaiques Quartet.

It's a Conspiarcy, Really...

... or so it seems to me!  I have no clue as to the identity of the collaborators, however people, things and events have combined in a mighty effort to keep me out of bed and off the blog.  They have been immanently successful!  Not that I have had any bad times, really.  In fact I have even worked in a sailing excursion and a trip over into Irving to visit with my best Gal Pal and her daughter who was in from Denver for the weekend.  

My part time business is growing exponentially by word of mouth  about my quality products and tyle of customer service.  his is a good thing, but it also means a lot more time devoted to it.  Again this is a good thing, I started the business to make money and indeed I am making good money at it.  

So bear with me, I will be here as often as I can and will try to continue the quality posts you have come to expect here at Nichevo.  That being said, I do have some Music and a healthy does of male art for your consumption today and some really great stuff for tomorrow's New Adventures in Good Music.

Interesting Times Indeed!

Since last we communed in these pages yesterday, the times have been interesting indeed! It starts with the disappointment that was the Cowboy game.  It was a tale of two halves.  In the first half, the Cowboys could do no wrong and the Falco9ns could do no right.  In the second half, the roles were reversed.  In the end the Cowboys gave up a 14 point lead 3 times, finally succumbing to the Falcons 39-28.  I will not dwell on it, the 'Boys will live to fight again another day.  

The rest of the football day was fairly boring given my mood and I finally gave up and went to bed.  I did not arise until this morning when I had a busy day planned.  It got busier as the day wore on.  I had to run across to the east side to help out  a friend then I went 0on to the laundry chore I already had planned.  That went well enough except for both change machines  being devoid of quarters with no attendant in sight.  My bank is close by so I just went and bought a roll of quarters there.  The attendants returned from their bank run after I had all my clothes in the dryer cycle already and then proceeded to load the change machine.  I guess they were really busy over the weekend as this is the firsy Monday I have had this quarter shortage occur.  Again, I shall not dwell as when I left the laundry center, the brakes I just had repaired fucked up and I had to take the car to the shop.  

I had the bakes repaired at a Just Brakes chain store.  They not only charged me too much for parts, they did shoddy work, even going so far as to fuck up a previous repair my regular mechanic had done.  So now I am out another $258, but I took it to my regular mechanic, I know I can trust him to do the job right.  The lesson learned here is don't let a coupon lure to someone who wants to ultimately screw you.  Always check the price with someone you trust first.  If I had done that, I would not be out this $258. My recourse at Just Brakes is as yet unclear, but I will be seeking some sort of resolution to this for sure.  

That is why this post is time stamped so late, I just went and picked up the car.  However, I am finally here and have Music and Men all put together for you, so I am not just gonna pitch a bitch and run away, lol.  

This week we will be featuring performances from the 2015 Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition in Brussells, Belgium.  Your Monday with Mozart features two of those performances.  Posted down below, 18 year old American VC ‘Young Artist’, violinist Stephen Waarts performs Mozart’s ‘Concerto No. 4 in D Major, KV. 218’ in the Semi-Finals of the Competition, recorded live with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie.  Stephen was awarded 5th prize.  Over on my tumblr, 20 year old South Korean violinist Ji Young Lim performs Mozart’s ‘Sonata No. 18 in G Major for Violin and Piano KV 301’ with collaborative pianist Jonas Vitaud in the Semi-Finals.  Ji Young went on to win 1st prize.

You Just Thought They Were...

....Playing Football. Yesterday afternoon's "Game of the Week" on Fox came to us live from Lincoln Financial Field in the lovely City of Brotherly Shove, Philadelphia.  The Cowboys were in town to take on the hometown Eagles before a capacity crowd.  They certainly did not get what they paid for or expected from their beloved Eagles, or the Cowboys for that matter.  It was as described by Troy Aikman and Joe Buck as "perhaps the ugliest game I have ever had the displeasure to observe".  Last year's Rushing Champion, DeMarco Murray, now with the Eagles, finished the day with two total yards from scrimmage and the only first down they got in the first half was by penalty.  To be honest, the Eagles were so inept I think my old high school team could have beat them yesterday.  The final score of 20 to 10 Cowboys did not do the Cowboys any favors in Philly and the local crowd was vociferous in their disapproval of their heroes.  

It was perhaps the most difficult Cowboy game I have ever watched.  It was ugly and got uglier when Cowboy QB Tony Romo was sacked in the 3rd Quarter, breaking his left clavicle that he had previously broken in 2010.  The prognosis is 8 to 10 weeks before he can play again.  Brandon Weeden, the backup QB, did what as required of him, leading a drive down the field for a TD.  Weeden went 7 for 7 passing on the drive.  It was a win nonetheless, but a costly one.  The Cowboys Nation is waiting with bated breath for the results of today's further testing.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out as the season goes along.  Keep your fingers crossed Cowboy Fans.  

Now as for your Monday with Mozart, I have a wonderful live performance from the great Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna.  The Concert piece is Mozart's penultimate Symphony, Number 41 in C Major "Jupiter" with a marvelous performance by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under the baton of Nicolaus Harnoncourt.  As a companion piece over on my tumblr, you may join Leonard Bernsein and the New York Philharmonic performing Mozart's Piano Concerto Number 24 in C Minor in a live radio broadcast recording from 1959.  The Piano Soloist is Glenn Gould.

Lady Luck is a Fickle Bitch!

Really, she is.  After smiling all evening on Eli Manning and the New York Giants, she gave one last smile before turning her back on them completely.  On a night when Tony Romo and the Cowboys did everything in their power to loose the game, 3 turnovers added to stupid penalties and dropped passes, Lady Luck for the 24th time smiled down on Tony Romo and blessed the Cowboys with a most improbable victory before 93,579 fans and a nationwide television audience on Sunday Night Football.  Trailing by 13 points at 26-13 with 8 minutes to play Romo and the Cowboys scored 14 points in the final 5 minutes to pull out an amazing victory, 27-26.

The final score shown in the photo above was a classic Romo to Witten 11 yard slant to the goal line where Jason Witten refused to be denied, waltzing into the End Zone for the winning TD.  This sent a heretofore rather despondent crowd into a delirious frenzy of celebration which could be heard for miles around the stadium in Arlington.  Even with the roof closed!  What a way to start the defense of the NFC Crown returned to the Cowboys last year after so many years without.  I hope all the games are not this much of a nail biter, but as they say "...on any given Sunday..." anything can happen.

The Cowboys schedule is OK except for a killer December, 3 road games to cold weather cities with outdoor stadiums,  Green Bay, Washington and of all places, fucking Buffalo two days after Christmas.  This is in addition to hosting the Jets and closing the season at home against the Redskins.  Could this be the Cowboys year? Only the passage of time will tell, but hopes springs eternal.  Especially when that fickle bitch, Lady Luck, decides to smile in your direction.

Yummy Weekend!

Happy Labor Day to those of you in the US celebrating the holiday and Happy Monday to the rest of you folks out there.  I have had a good weekend so far, trying a lot of new things out with my new kitchen toys.  All of which have been imminently successful I might add.  Over the last few days I have baked a chicken ( see On the Menu! from last Friday for details), banana bread with pecans, and cod with a 4 cheese topping.  Then last night I really tested my skills and the new oven after I got home from working so a coworker could have the day off.  

I came home from work to 3 frozen pork chops and a pound and a half of little round red potatoes and one hungry Will.  Here is what I did to solve the challenge before me.  Kroger sells a pork chop seasoning mix an cooking bag that I like a lot so I took the seasoning packet and sprinkled it on the frozen pork chops after rinsing them in cold water.  I sprinkled both sides, making sure each side got a healthy coating of spice then placed them on the 3 inch grill in the NuWave Oven.  I had the extender ring in place as this was going to be a dual layer cook.  I took the remaining seasoning mixed with a little water, poured that over the chops and left that in the liner tray to add some steam effect, maybe.  I then placed the 2 inch grill atop the 3 inch grill and went to the next step.  

I quartered the potatoes, rinsed them and set them aside for a moment .  I then mixed a 1/4 cup olive oil with 1 teaspoon of ground thyme, 1 tablespoon ground rosemary and  2 tablespoons oregano and stirred them together I then tossed the potatoes in this mix then layered them skin side up on the 2 inch grill.  I put on the dome and power head, set the cook temp at 350 and the cook time at 10 minutes.  When the oven beeped after 10 minutes I turned the chops over and the potatoes skin side down, then cooked the whole thing for another 10 minutes at 350.  When the oven beeped again, the potatoes and the chops were done to perfection with correct internal temperatures in both meat and potatoes.  The chops were moist and flavorful and the potatoes were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and very flavorful.  Total time including prep time of 15 minutes from frozen to table of only 35 minutes.  Awesome does not begin to describe how pleased I am with this new machine.  

Tonight I take on a sacred cow down  here in the South.  Up North you all know it as 'country fried steak'.  Here in the South it is know as Chicken Fried Steak and it is becoming increasingly hard to find a good one anywhere.  There is a recipe for Country Air Fried Steak at NuWaveCookingClub.com that I looked at for a basis in comparing my own recipe.  I then decided to take the best of both and try that on for size.  I will try that out tonight and tell you about that tomorrow when chicken enchiladas are On the Menu!  Suffice it to say I am well pleased with my little investment and the results have spoken for themselves.  We will keep you posted as we try more and more new things.

Monday with Mozart & Perlman

Today is the last day of August, making next Monday Labor Day already.  Where has the summer gone?   At any rate, on this day in 1945, Itzhak Perlman was born in Tel Aviv.  Perlman taught himself to play the violin on a toy violin when he was rejected form the music school at age 4 for being too small to hold one.  He has gone on to become one of the worlds premier Violinists, Conductor and Pedagogue.  Little known by most folks he has also recorded Puccini's "Tosca" that featured Renata Scotto, Plácido Domingo, and Renato Bruson, with James Levine conducting.  He had earlier sung the role in an excerpt from the opera on a 1980 Pension Fund Benefit Concert telecast as part of the Live from Lincoln Center series with Luciano Pavarotti as Cavaradossi and Zubin Mehta conducting the New York Philharmonic. 

Your Monday with Mozart features Perlman and fellow Israeli Pinchas Zukerman in their live performance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta's baton at The Huberman Festival in 1983.  Their performance was of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola in E Flat Major, K364.  Continuing the celebration of Perlman's birthday over on my tumblr, I have Perlman's performance of Mozart's Violin Concerto Number 3 in G Major, K 216.  That performance is with the Vienna Philharmonic under James Levine.

John Oliver Strikes Again!

I had a late night and an early morning appointment at the VA which delayed my arrival in these pages somewhat.  However, I am here now and want to share with you John Oliver's rant from Sunday's episode of Last Week Tonight.  The blurb for the rant reads "This year’s gay marriage ruling was a milestone, but LGBT discrimination is still surprisingly legal. John Oliver explains why we need a federal anti-discrimination law.".  Not only is John Oliver dead on and serious, he is seriously funny at the same time.  What was it that Mary Poppins used to say?  "...a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down!".   Maybe that will work with the Republicans in Congress who have thus far to a person refused to cosponsor the Equality Act.  Of course logic has never worked with those folks so maybe spooning a little humor in with the reality will bear some fruit somewhere along the line.  I certainly hope so!  Watch John Oliver's rant, laugh long and hard, then think about what he said:

Monday: Oliver, Mutter & Mozart

I had a quite weekend mostly watching videos and doing as little as possible.  As a result, I am feeling fairly refreshed and ready to take on the week once again.  Before we get into your Monday with Mozart, I thought I would offer you a bit of comic relief to brighten the day.  On last night's Last Week Tonight,  Host John Oliver turned his investigative eye on the world of Televangelism.  In what is perhaps his funniest segment ever, John hoists these religious charlatans on there own petard.  I know I sure got a barrel of laughts out of it.  Watch and laugh for yourselves:

I loved the send up of local legends Robert Tilton and Kenneth Copeland, both of whom are the slimiest of snake oil salesmen around.  Yet people send send these guys money all the time.  I would rather send my money to The Church of Perpetual Exemption. (Like I would do something that stupid anyway, lol) I would stand as much a chance of being blessed there as I would at any of the other charlatans dissed by Oliver.  So Sad, but So True! 

Now, on to Monday with Mozart where I once again feature the wonderfully talented Anne-Sophie Mutter who masterfully performs her entire repertoire.  Today, posted down below, Ms Mutter and frequent  musical partner Lambert Orkis perform Four Sonatas for Piano and Violin off of their 4 CD set of all of Mozarts Violin Sonatas.  Included in the play list are the Sonatas in F Major, K.376; in E Flat Major, K.302; in G Major, K.379 and in B Flat Major, K.454.  Over on my tumblr, Ms Mutter is backed by the Camerata Salzburg Orchestra for their performance of Mozart's final Violin Concerto, Number 5 in A Major, K219.

Monday With Mozart

Good morning to you all.  I thought I would get an early start on things as I have a doctor's appointment this morning at 9:30.  I have a new schedule this week which I am mostly happy with.  Although I did not get my Thursday off as I had hoped, I did end up having this entire past weekend off.  This will be my regular schedule for the foreseeable future.  As such I really should have no complaints.  How many people who work retail have weekends off?  So I guess I should consider myself fortunate to be one of the few who have such a rare pleasure.  

I have something  marvelously mellow for your Monday with Mozart today.  Posted down below is Mozart's String Quintet Numbers 3 in C Major, KV 515 and 4 in A Minor, KV 516.  The Quintets are scored for 2 Violins, 2 Violas and a Cello.  Josef Suk joins the Smetana Quartet for this recording of two of the longer of Mozart's chamber pieces with the run time of nearly three hours.  Over on my tumblr, I have a recording of Mozart's 17 Church Sonatas in the order they were written along with a bit of discussion of the sonatas themselves.

W10 & Witcher 3

As most of you know by now, I am not a gamer, that is Will's forte, not mine.  He is also my go to Geek when I run across something I don't understand or fuck something up.  He speaks techno-geek, nerdish and pcsnobbish with the best of them.  Will is currently playing Witcher 3 which has superior graphics and requires a large speedy video card like Will's GTX970.  Well Witcher 3 has been crashing on Will ever since the W10 install.  Through a painful trial and error process Will discovered the problem.  W10 'babysits' your device drivers and upgrades them automatically through Windows Update.  This is all well and good except if you have hardware whose software support is not yet W10 compatible.   W10 was overriding Will's settings and installing a beta version of the driver for the GTX970, thus undoing everything he had done to solve the problem thus far.  He discovered this when he caught Windows Update in the act.  He has thoughtfully provided us with his instructions for a solution that he posted on the either the Witcher 3 or W10 Sub-Reddit, I don't remember which one he said.  Here it is:

This is important so PAY ATTENTION.

Microsoft is pushing a Beta driver 352.63 down Windows Update. Windows Update is auto over-riding your drivers.

It is incredibly difficult to stop this.

I found this out after getting multiple crashes, despite rolling back the driver to previous versions. I caught Windows Update, installing GTX 970 update when it was checking for updates.

It has been over-riding my driver in my sleep!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I do not need Windows 10 to be my parent.

So, how do we fix it. This is going to be a doozy so stick with me.

Part 1:

Hit Winkey and type advanced system settings.

Should look like this:

Select Hardware tab Select Device Installation Settings

Choose these settings:

This prevents Device manager from auto downloading hardware updates when you restart or aren't looking.

Part 2:

Now we move on to the next part. (Note this is only if it has over-ridden your driver, if it hasn't move down to part 3.)

Hit winkey and type in Device Manager and launch that.

Find your display adapter and then right click it

Select Uninstall and also the little box to delete software

Wait

After it is removed from the list, select "Scan for Hardware Changes"

Reboot computer

You are now ready to install the driver you want to install, so do that.

Reboot again.

Part 3:

Go here and get this tool: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930?utm_source=twitter[3]

This enables showing/hiding of updates coming down Windows Update.

If you followed all my instructions correctly at this point and it's not checking for updates. You should be able to run this tool and find the driver update to hide.

This is how:

Launch the .cab file, it will look like this:

Select Next It will begin searching for updates so wait patiently.

Select Hide Updates

You should see this (Note, I'm actually under Show Hidden Updates here but that is because I already hid the update earlier, this is how you unhide updates but you want to be under Hide Updates)

Select the driver update to hide

Say Next.

It should tell you it has completed successfully and will not install that update.

Only in Texas

Here in Texas we have no shortage of Nut Jobs and Wackos dotting our political landscape.  Well it seems a bunch of them have gotten together in the latest backlash against the SCOTUS ruling.  The Arch Conservative Coalition of Wackos and Nut Jobs of TX (ACCWNT or Arch Conservatives Crying With No Tolerance, my own terminology invention and interpretation of course) has planned a 8 city circle jerk tour to tout their brand of religious intolerance.  Only in Texas could this many Nut Jobs gather in one place at the same time and still be considered a legitimate interest group or even reasonable.  Of course we know they are neither legitimately interested in political progress or reasonable in their beliefs.  They are just a bunch if bigots parading in public only without the hoods, robes and burning crosses.  The article below reposted from Towleroad.com will tell you all about it:  

"Last week, we mentioned how Texas anti-LGBT leaders are planning an anti-gay hatefest at a church whose pastor is also a state representative.

That announcement came on the heels of the launch of a new anti-LGBT coalition in Dallas.

Now, if you’re still keeping track, many of the same bigots are planning an eight-city “Faith Family Freedom” tour in August, September and October:



“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” states an email announcing the tour from Houston anti-LGBT activist Jared Woodfill. “It’s time for us to stand up and fight to take back our government from the godless Secular Humanists, Pro-Abortionists and Political Homosexual Movement. We will trust God! We will take action! We will fight to restore our Constitutional liberties based upon Biblical truth!”

The rallies will be held in Houston, Fort Worth, Dallas, San Antonio, Tyler, Lubbock, Corpus Christi and Waco.

 

The tour is sponsored by 17 people, including:

• Former Congressman Tom Delay (above right), who recently suggested the U.S. Department of Justice wants to legalize sex with animals and little boys.

• Pastor Rick Scarborough, who pledged to set himself on fire if the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage, then changed his mind, saying he only planned to do so because he loves gay people.

• Dr. Steve Hotze of the Conservative Republicans of Texas, who said at the anti-LGBT coalition’s recent Dallas launch that the SCOTUS ruling will mean teachers encouraging kindergarteners to try anal sex.

 

• Cathie Adams (above right with Sen. Ted Cruz) of the Texas Eagle Forum, who recently said same-sex marriage would lead to the end of America if the state Legislature didn’t act to undermine SCOTUS’ ruling.

• David Barton of WallBuilders, who said the SCOTUS ruling will force churches to hire pedophiles to run day care centers.

All in all, this tour — which seems more like a last-gasp fundraising scheme — promises plenty of great entertainment.

This would all be laughable if these people were not so dead serious in their bigoted delusions of grandeur.  We will definitely have to keep an wary eye on all these folks lest we fall victim to their bigotry.  And so we shall.  Now on to more pleasant things.

Ljudkievich Philharmonic Hall (2013-02-15).  Rounding out the play list is the wonderfully intimate Sunday Morning Concert from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam from May 2014 of Mozart's Sinfornia Concertante for Violin and Viola, K364.  This performance is by the Basel Chamber Orchestra with Vilda Frang as the Violin Soloist and Nils Mönkemeyer on Solo Viola.
