Ensemble Week

Happy Monday, All.  The day has dawned bright and sunny after a weekend chock full of rain storms.  I am ready for a little sunshine and warmth along with just about everyone else in Texas.  For the last few weeks we have explored Music from the Grand Master Musicians and Composers focusing on a specific instrument.  This week I thought we would take a look at Music written for a Musical Ensemble.  Wikipedia tells us this about the Ensemble:

A musical ensemble, also known as a music group, is a group of people who perform instrumental or vocal music, typically known by a distinct name. In classical music, trios or quartets either blend the sounds of musical instrument families (such as piano, strings, and wind instruments) or group together instruments from the same instrument family, such as string ensembles or wind ensembles.

In Western classical music, smaller ensembles are called chamber music ensembles. The terms duet, trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, septet, octet, nonet and dectet describe groups of two up to ten musicians, respectively. A group of eleven musicians, such as found in The Carnival of the Animals, is called either a hendectet or an undectet (see Latin numerical prefixes). A solo is not an ensemble because it only contains one musician.

As this is Monday Ensemble Week runs smack dab into Monday With Mozart, which is a good thing.  Mozart was quite adept and prolific at Music for the Ensemble.  I have two excellent examples to share with you today.  Posted down below you will find the Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K 581 "Stadler Quintet" with a performance by the Hagen Quartet who add Sabine Meyer as the Clarinet Soloist to round out the Quintet.  Over on my tumblr, you will be delighted with the Divertimento for Wind Sextet in B Flat Major with a performance by Consortium Classicum

Then to brighten everyone's Monday take a gander at these lithesome lads in their Monday's Undies posted down below.  Also be sure to check out the 'Snake Charmer' Hottie of the Day! over on my tumblr.  Thanks for starting your week here at Nichevo, see you again soon.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
