A beautiful, near perfect day in Boston turned to tragedy as the world's oldest continuously run athletic event, the Boston Marathon, was shattered when two bombs went off near the finish line. There are at least 3 dead, among the dead an 8 year old boy, and 132 injured. I cannot fathom how such a senseless act of violence/terrorism would serve the purpose of advancing one's cause. To be sure it would engender anger, hatred and the desire for revenge. It would not cause a reasonable person to embrace any religious faith that sanctioned such murder and mayhem. In whose diabolical mind could the taking of lives and the maiming of innocent bystanders at an international sporting event be construed as having a positive outcome for anyone?
As the investigation into this tragic event that turned a day of hope and glory into death and despair continues, assurances by the President and law enforcement that those individuals or groups responsible will be held to account and brought to justice bring some measure of comfort to those most directly affected. My heart, my thoughts and my prayers go out to the victims, the people of Boston and the international athletic community held hostage as witnesses of this sick, senseless act of violence perpetrated by a person or persons who are most definitely diabolically evil and twisted beyond recognition.
