I got a text message from the boss yesterday afternoon telling me to take the night off. This in effect gave me an unexpected, yet welcome nevertheless, three day weekend. Not that I have anything big planned, it is just nice to be able to stop for a while and get fully rested as well as completely catch up on all the little things that go by the wayside when you are as busy as I have been. Needless to say, napping was a prime activity. I feel like I am fully refreshed now and ready to take on the task of catching all the little stuff up. I did all my chores and errands and the larders are now full instead of looking like a barren wasteland.
I am trying some new rice recipes this week that will maybe supplant some of the reliance on boxed meals during the work week as well as add a little variety to the menu. I like to experiment with meals, so this should be a fun week in the kitchen. I will not be cooking on Friday, Will will have to just deal with leftovers, as Bailey Bradford will be in town and we are doing the meet and greet thing while dining at Salsa Fuego on the West Side of Fort Worth. Not only do I get to meet one of my favorite authors face to face along with her daughter and mom, but I get to try out a restaurant at which I have not had the pleasure of dining . So the food event horizon looks to be exciting for this week, which is a good thing. I am starting the experiments today with a new recipe for my slow cooker which has chicken, rice and veggies in a cream sauce. I will let you know how it comes out.

Antonio Vivaldi from the
2009 CD New Discoveries. The CD description reads: "Last year (2008), Federico Maria Sardelli, who has made several contributions
to the Vivaldi Edition, was appointed to take charge of the Vivaldi
catalogue. It is now his job to authenticate any further manuscripts
that turn up in what may be Vivaldi's hand. Over the past ten years,
thanks in part to the stimulus of the Vivaldi Edition project, several
manuscripts by Vivaldi have surfaced in different countries. Federico
Maria Sardelli has decided to record the finest of them. So this
recording does indeed present new works by Vivaldi.
The content is
very diverse, ranging from a motet, which is performed by the
mezzo-soprano Romina Basso, to an Oboe Concerto, a Recorder Concerto,
arias and other gems. There is a clear pattern to these discoveries.
Almost all come from peripheral sources, and most appear to originate
from special commissions at the margin of the composer's activity. The
most imposing of the new works introduced here is a solo motet for
contralto and strings, Vos invito, barbarae faces, RV811, only recently
unearthed by Valerio Losito and Renato Criscuolo in the library of the
basilica of S. Francesco, Assisi. The work is anonymous but is
attributed to Vivaldi persuasively by Federico Maria Sardelli on the
basis of several passages recurring in authenticated Vivaldi works."
The performance today is by
Modo Antiquo, founded and conducted by
Federico Maria Sardelli and features Soloists Romina Basso (mezzo), Paolo Pollastri (oboe), Enrico Casazza (violin), and Bettina Hoffmann (cello).
