More Wing-Nuttery From NOM

I found this over at Towleroad.com exposing the latest Wing-Nuttery from Maggie and the gang at NOM.  "It's no secret that the National Organization for Marriage is dissatisfied with the Supreme Court's recent decisions that did away with Prop 8 and Section 3 of DOMA. After plenty of ranting and raving, the organization has now resorted to some of their older tactics, which include distorting facts and figures. This time around, NOM and The Heritage Foundation are trying to present pseudo-scientific data linking marriage equality with single motherhood, children in poverty, and the claim that men will start to leave their wives if they are allowed to marry other men."  You can read the rest of the report here.  Basically, Maggie and her gangsters are pushing lies and innuendo to denigrate the LGBTQ community once again.  Luckily for our community, more and more people are discovering that Maggie is full of shit and pushing blatant lies, bigotry and hypocrisy in order to deny the humanity and civil rights of us Gay folks.  The more outrageous she gets, the easier it is to discredit her and her lies.  Sometimes they make it too easy, lol.

Marriage Boom in California

While the religious right and anti-gay organizations were gnashing their teeth and flooding the airwaves, print media and the Internet with their bellyaching about the historic wins for the LGBTQ community at the Supreme Court, the excitement and exuberance I spoke of in yesterday's post resulted in hundreds of same sex couples flocking to California Court Houses and City Halls on Monday in an effort to become among the first to wed since the Prop 8 victory.  The two couples at the heart of the Prop 8 case were married in separate ceremonies last Friday when the stay on Judge Walker's ruling was lifted by the court, the ladies in San Francisco and the men in Los Angeles.  However, Californians were not the only ones who were celebrating the victories by getting married. 

A Louisiana couple, Claude Summers and Ted-Larry Pebworth are flying to Massachusetts where they will be married in Provincetown on the 4th of July to celebrate their 50th Anniversary as a couple.  Summers and Pebworth's relationship has spanned the entire modern Gay Rights movement and their marriage will bridge the political with the deeply personal.  Marrying in the first state to allow same sex couples to wed, in a town that personifies the LGBTQ community, just seemed to be thing to do for their Golden Anniversary.  My hearty congratulations go to all the couples who have already or will shortly take their vows to join the growing ranks of legally married (and now Federally recognized) same sex couples across the nation.
