Another Busy Day!

I managed to catch some rest but have not completely caught up on my shows yet.  Out of necessity, some of yesterday's chores and errands bled over into today, so it has once again been a day on the run for me.  All I have left on my list now is my 10 hour truck night shift.   The good news is I once again have the weekend off to recover from such a hectic week.  I may be juggling my time a little but I have already posted the Fantasy Fuel in the post down below and I have some terrific music for you today.  

Your featured selection is from an Italian Composer hitherto not featured in these pages, Saverio Mercandante.  Actually there are two Clarinet Concerti, the first in E Flat Major, Opus 76 and is followed by the B Flat Major, Opus 101. Behind the Curve

My weekend had a particularly rocky ending, the details of which shall remain unmentioned.  Suffice it to say that when I arose this morning, I was in somewhat of a dark mood.  I got to moving around, then fixed breakfast for Will and I.  At that point I sat down to get this post together.  I gathered the video and the photography, then plugged them into the post editor.  However, when it came to actually putting pen to page, let's just say I was not feeling particularly creative.  So I thought I might take a short nap and see if things brightened a bit on the other side.  Little did I know that my 'short nap' would stretch out to 5 o'clock this evening.  

After arising from my nap, I was somewhat less ambivalent until I got some Dr Pepper in me to wake my ass up.  Then I got an email from Bailey Bradford that sure helped brighten my day.  So now that I am fully awake, I find myself behind the news curve as I have cast nary a glance at my feeds.  However sure I am my witty reparte' is a bonus to you who regularly visit these pages, let's face it, the Music and the Men are the main attraction here.  That being said, I should just get on with the show and thus I shall.  

I have one of my favorite Mozart works for your Monday With Mozart feature today.  Having played the clarinet for many years, I have always enjoyed Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K622.  Today's video of a 2006 performance by Sharon Kam recorded live at the Estates Theatre, Prague, Czech Republic is a particularly good one.  Sharon is accompanied by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Manfred Honeck.  You may also hear Mozart's Triple Piano Concerto Number 7 in F Major, K 242 featuring Sir Georg Solti, Andras Schiff and Daniel Barenboim at the Pianos over on my tumblr.  Sir Georg Solti also conducts the unnamed orchestra.

A Look Back

Where were you 50 years ago?  I realize some of my readers may not have been around in June of 1963.  I had just turned twelve and was preparing to enter Forest Oak Junior High School (now Forest Oak Middle School) in the fall.  I was coming to realize my different-ness, although I could not define it, I just knew I was different.  I had also already had my first same sex experiment with my best friend at the time.  A lot has changed in the last 50 years, most of it due to a lot of unsung heroes who were never a household name.  Yet they threw open their closet doors, came out and challenged the status quo, which made life easier for all of us because of their sacrifices for the cause.  In celebration of Boston Pride, The Edge, Boston published an article on Saturday, In 50 Years, Huge Strides for the Gay Rights Movement, that took "a look back at three of the gay-rights movement’s pivotal phases and some of the people who chose to get involved."  Well worth the read to find out how we got from there then to here now and some of the people that made it happen.  It does pay to know your Gay History, if for no other reason so you can appreciate what it took to gain what freedoms we have today as we sit on the cusp of some really important events that could change all our lives in one way or another.  

In the same vein, I have decided your Musical Moments this week will be reprises of some of my favorite play lists that have previously been posted here.  Great music is always worth more than just one listen.  Especially so in the case of Monday's Musical Reprise where the music of the Master, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, is featured in a play list I originally posted in January of 2012 in celebration of the 256th anniversary of Mozart's birthday.  Included in the play list are Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major (Turkish) K219, performed by Janine Jansen violin, with the European Union Youth Orchestra, Vladimir Ashkenazy conducting from a performance at the BBC Proms in 2006 followed by the Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K622 performed by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra conducted by Gerard Schwarz featuring David Shifrin on an A Basset Clarinet. To complete the reprise, I have my favorite Mozart Symphony, Number 40 in G Minor, K550 performed by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra with Dennis Russell Davies conducting.
