Saturday Matinee

Welcome the Weekend.  Just because my Saturday schedule has changed should not preclude me from bringing you fabulous live performances each Saturday.  I just need to adjust the post timing.  I suppose I could pre-post and schedule it for publication.  However that presents the challenge of acquiring the links to other posts that are scheduled to post at the same time.  So I decided to turn your Evening Concert into the Saturday Matinee and continue with our fabulous live performances week after week.  

To kick off the Saturday Matinee's initial addition I have a February 2012 recording of a live perfomance by the Cleveland Orchestra under the Baton of Marek Janowski.  The concert piece is Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Opus 64 and features Arabella Steinbacher as the Violin Soloist.  Over on my tumblr, the Saturday Matinee features Mendelssohn's Piano Sextet in D Major, Opus 110 with a performance by Yuja Wang, Piano; Kirill Troussov, Violin; David Aaron Carpenter, Viola; Maxim Rysanov, Viola; Sol Gabetta, Cello and Leigh Mesh, Double-Bass.

Lazy Day

It is a beautiful, sunny day outside.  Although it is slightly coolish, all I really have the desire todo today is sit on the patio, soak up some sun and ignore the world.  Unfortunately, I will have to eventually rejoin the real world when I go to work this evening.  In the meantime, I will laze about as much as possible.  However, no day is complete without beautiful Music and magnificent Men of which I have available in abundance.  So while I am being lazy, you guys can listen and look at the selections I have to share with you today.

Your Tuesday Musical Moment features tow Piano Concerti by Tchaikovsky,  Numbers 1, Opus 23 and  2, Opus 44.  This 1991 performance is recorded live at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt by the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev and featuring Mikhail Pletnev as Piano Soloist.  You may also join Fedoseyev and the MRSO over on my tumblr for their 2011 performance at the Musikverien in Vienna of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D major op.35 featuring Arabella Steinbacher as the Violin Soloist.

Bright Spot of the Week

While most of this week has been an adventure in health care, there has been a bright spot or two along the way.  The brightest spot is that Will has gotten himself a job contracting with Clickworker and Amazon MTurk which he is really excited about.  It also seems to be working out for him so far.  I am really happy for him, he has been searching for the right opportunity for quite a while.  It is his hope and mine that this works into something he can do full time after gaining some experience.  I know for sure he will be happier making his own money for the things he needs and wants.  And for that I am very glad.  So I am trying to focus on the positive side of things instead of all my 'issues' and Will being happier makes that a whole lot easier.
