The Dallas Cowboys improved to 6-5 Sunday with a crucial road game victory over their division rival New York Giants. It wasn't easy and it wasn't always pretty, but in the end it was a win. This puts Dallas in a tie with the Philadelphia Eagles for first place. The Cowboys have the edge on the Eagles however by virtue of their week 7 victory in Philly. In fact, the Cowboys hold all the cards for the division title with a 4-0 division record with two division games remaining. It will come down to the last two weeks of the season when the Cowboys play in Washington in week 16 and close out the season at home against the Eagles in week 17. Between now and then are three very win able games starting with the Thanksgiving Day game against the Oakland Raiders at home. Then comes a road trip for a Monday night game against the Chicago Bears followed by a home game against the Green Bay Packers. It is conceivable the Cowboys could win out the rest of the season, however unlikely that may be. Even if they do not win out but the Cowboys beat the Redskins in Washington, they will take the division crown no matter the results of the Philadelphia game in week 17.
In yesterday's game, the Cowboys scored first when Orlando Scandrick ripped the ball out of the hands of the Giants Victor Cruz at midfield. The ball flew right into the hands of Rookie Safety Jeff Heath who then scampered 50 yards for the score. The Giants answered weakly with a field goal to open the second quarter. This was followed by an 80 yard drive culminated with a 20 yard Tony Romo to Jason Witten Touchdown to put the Cowboys up 14-3. The Giants again answered with a field goal giving Dallas a 14-6 half time lead.
In the third quarter, the Cowboys went on another long drive topped off by another Romo to Witten Touchdown, this one for 2 yards and a 21-6 lead. Then the Giants made a game of it by finally scoring a Touchdown to close to 21-13. In the fourth quarter the Giants put the pressure on the Cowboys, scoring a Touchdown and a 2 point conversion to tie the game at 21 with 4:45 left on the clock. Tony Romo then did what he does best, rally the Cowboys to victory in the final minutes of a game. The final drive included three critical third down conversions, two Tony Romo to Dez Bryant passes for 19 yards on third and seven and 8 yards on third and five. Then faced with a third and ten at the Giants 28 yard line, Romo found Cole Beasley for 13 yards to the Giants 15 yard line with 1:17 left on the clock. Romo took a knee twice to run the clock down to 4 seconds, then turned the game over to Kicker Dan Bailey who drilled a 35 yard Field Goal right down the middle of the goal posts as time expired to give the Cowboys the victory 24-21.
