Welcome to the weekend and this week's review of the Best of the Web This Week. It was a banner week for collecting photographs with prolific postings of phenomenally photogenic fellows wherever I wandered on the web. This resulted in nearly 1500 new additions to my collections, making the sift, sort and select process for today's review somewhat time consuming, but well worth the effort. The final 80 selections are a cross section of many facets of the art of the male form, each with its own unique factor to immediately grasp the attention of the viewer. To accompany your inspection and appreciation of these works of art, your Musical Moment for today features three
Number 1 works by Dimitri Shostakovich. The first piece is The Cello
Concerto No. 1 in E Flat Major, Opus 107, written by Shostakovich in
1959 for Mstislav Rostropovich, who memorized the work in four days.
This first recording was made for the CBS label by Rostropovich
accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy in
November of 1959. The second piece is his Symphony Number 1 with a
2006 performance by the London Symphony Orchestra under the baton of
Valery Gergiev. Finally, Dmitri Shostakovich's son, Maxim Shostakovich
conducts Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Minor which is performed by Maxim's
son, Dmitri Shostakovich Jr. and accompanied by the I Musici de
Montreal. Thanks for sharing a part of your weekend with me, we will visit again upon your return on Monday for another week of Music, Men and More! Until next time as always, Enjoy!
