Yesterday started out as a good day, how little did I know that would change before the day got too many hours old. I arose at my usual Wednesday time of 2:30 AM in order to be at work by 4. Of course I checked my computer for news, feeds and photos before I left. I put my computer to sleep at 3:23 before heading off to work. My workday was fairly pleasant yet uneventful and I got off on time at 8. When I arrive home, one of the first things I do is wake up the computer and turn on the music (Venice Classic Radio usually). Yesterday, home was actually Malfunction Junction as my computer refused to awaken from its slumber. It was working fine when I put it in sleep mode, so I was baffled when it refused to awaken. I applied my limited geek ability to the problem without success for about 40 minutes before I decided to turn to my personal in house Geek Extraordinaire, Will. The only problem with that was the fact that Will was asleep which meant I had to face the wrath of a legion of demons when I did so. Will was not a happy camper when I woke him up, but I did manage to convince him to take a look at my computer. He blew the dust out of the inside, took out and reseated the major components then tried to boot it up. He was able to get it to spring to life somewhat as the first thing that showed up was a 'resume' error with two options. We tried the first option which did not work, however option two proved to be the better choice as the computer did boot up somewhat normally.
At that point Will got out his handy dandy diagnostic disk, then proceeded to test the memory. The memory was fine. He then tested the HDD for errors and therein lay the problem. The tests showed the HDD had corrupted sectors on it. It seems that when I put the computer to sleep, it managed to eat itself right at the point of the sleep mode instructions. This meant I would probably have to reformat the entire disk to resolve the problem which of course would wipe out any and all data on the disc. As a work around, Will took my HDD out and inserted it into his computer where he was able to transfer all my data to his HDD then reformat my HDD. This did take some time and after completing the reformat he again tested the disc for errors and it thankfully came up clean. However while he was in this process, I lay down on couch and fell asleep. When I awoke around two, Will had gone back to bed for a nap from which he did not awaken until around four. I was not about to wake him up again. So I had to find something to occupy my time while I awaited his return to the land of the living. Luckily I have real books to read as well as all the ebooks I have. However I had to read sans music as my computer lay open on the floor minus its HDD so it was pretty much useless as far as entertainment value was concerned. When Will did awaken, he finished testing my disc then reloaded my data on to it.
I got my disc back around 5, however I still had to reinstall windows before it would be of any use to me. This involved not only the reinstalling of Windows, but also reinstalling all the various programs, add ons, extensions and utilities I use on a regular basis as well as about 140 Windows updates. Thankfully this process, although time consuming, did not cause any loss of data that I can tell. All my documents, program setup files and most importantly my photographic archives all survived the process. It was just after 9 PM when I was finally convinced I was back to where I was before the disaster struck, minus 13 or 14 hours of complete hassle getting there. I am sure glad I had Will around as he worked the miracle of bringing my computer back to life and saved my data at the same time. I am so thankful that I have my own personal Geek Extraordinaire, this process could have been much longer, way more expensive and probably would have involved a major loss of data if not for Will's wizardry. I think I will keep him around for a while!
Lest I forget, today is Spirit Day which is the day to wear Purple to show support for those who are or have been bullied. You can find out how to participate and more at www.glaad.org/spiritday.

Today's play list from Volume 2 includes Hachis Romantique; Les Hors D'oeuvres: Radis; Les Hors D'oeuvres: Theme Et Vars (Anchois); Les Hors D'oeuvres: Intro (Cornichons); Les Hors D'oeuvres: Theme Et Vars (Beurre); Les Hors D'oeuvres: Ouf! Les Petits Pois; Les Quatres Mendiants: Me Voila - Bonjour Madam (Les Figues Seches); Les Quatres Mendiants: Minuit Sonne - Bon Soir Madame (Les Amandes); Les Quatres Mendiants: A Ma Petite Perruche (Les Raisins); Les Quatres Mendiants: A Ma Chere Nini (Les Noisettes) and Petite Valse L'Huile De Ricin. After the play list I threw in a few extra photographs of sensual and sexy Men In Jeans for you to cruise and peruse while listening to the melodious music in the play list. Thanks for sharing part of your day with me, see you tomorrow (barring technical diffuculties, hell or high water!). Until next time as always, Enjoy!
