The Minnesota State House of Representatives has scheduled a debate and vote on Marriage Equality for today. House Speaker Paul Thissen, DFL-Minneapolis, said he believes the
73-member DFL majority has the 68 votes needed to pass the bill allowing
same-sex couples to wed, even without a single Republican vote. As of late Tuesday, no GOP House members have said publicly they would vote "yes". Meanwhile,
Senate Democratic leaders say they also have the votes to pass a
same-sex marriage bill, and DFL Gov. Mark Dayton says he'll sign it. All this means is that by Sunday there may be 12 states plus DC with Marriage Equality. Minnesota could become the first Midwestern state to adopt Marriage Equality by legislative rule rather than judicial mandate (like in Iowa). That would make 3 states in less than two weeks moving into the Marriage Equality family. Illinois might not be that far behind Minnesota in adopting their own bill for Marriage Equality. What an remarkably amazing time we are experiencing. And it can only get better as long as we keep working together for Equality.
