Mellow Monday

In the end, the Cowboys game against the Giants yesterday at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington came down to the oldest cliche in the book.  After giving up 4 turnovers and spotting the Giants 23 points in the first 18 minutes of the contest, the Cowboys dominated the 2nd and 3rd periods, eventually taking the lead at 24-23.  It was a game of highs and lows, both in abundance.  After taking the lead, the Cowboys turned the ball over 2 more times (for a total of 6 turnovers) giving the Giants 6 more points to take the lead 29-24 in the fourth Quarter.  The high points in the game were Jason Witten's 18 catches, a personal best, which put him within 3 catches of setting the Cowboys record for all time receptions currently held by Michael Irvin.  It was also the first time since 1965 when Dandy Don Merideth was Quarterback that the Cowboys had 3  receivers with over 100 yards receiving (Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, and Miles Austin).  It also marked the largest deficit the Cowboys have overcome to take a lead in a game.  Even with the Giants leading in the final 2 minutes, The Cowboys almost snatched victory from the Giants when Tony Romo connected with Dez Bryant at the back of the End Zone to score the apparent winning touchdown with 1 second left on the clock, only to have the replay show that Bryant's two fingers landed over the end line of the End Zone thus making the ball incomplete instead of a Touchdown.  Tony Romo's last pass of the game fell incomplete and the Giants won.  Oh yes, that oldest cliche, 'football is a game of inches' and were it not for two finger widths measuring just over 1 inch, the Cowboys would have celebrated the thrill of victory but were instead left with the agony of defeat.  This put the Giants at 6-2 in command of the division going into the second half of the season and the Cowboys sputtering at 3-4.  Were it not for the stellar play of the defense when defending the many short fields granted by the 6 turnovers, forcing the Giants to take 5 field goals instead of 5 more touchdowns, it really could have been a much worse score.  Highs and Lows, ebb and flow, such has been the season so far for the Cowboys.

Moving on to something a lot more pleasant, to soothe the rattled nerves of Cowboys fans everywhere and this one in particular, I have a video taken from a 1958 recording on the MGM label of a number of works by Claude Debussy as interpreted in this performance by Menahem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio.  The play list includes the following works: Pagodas, Evening in Granada, Gardens in the rain, reverie, Arabesque No. 1, The girl with the flaxen hair, Arabesque No. 2, The more than slow - waltz, Bergamo Suite, prelude, minuet, Clair de Lune, and Passepied.  Following the video is a studly collection of sculpted bodies more or less clad in the briefest of briefs in this week's edition of Monday's Undies.  The music and the men should get Monday and Halloween week of to a mellow yet erotic start.  Thanks for the visit, see you again tomorrow.  Until next time as always, Enjoy
