Politics: Satire, Shame And A Call For A Change

Mkambati Nature Preserve,
Pondoland Coast, South Africa

Uncle Gerry is feeling almost human again today for the first time in a week. I actually got some rest and was able to eat a full meal last night and this morning. The portions were not as large as I would normally eat, however I consumed more food at one time last night than I had all week so that is a good thing. Surprisingly enough the meals actually tasted like food instead of cardboard, another good thing. What I found that was not such a good thing is this button (pictured below) being distributed at the GOP State Convention in my home state of Texas. It is things like this that makes me ashamed to say I come from Texas. The button is definitely racist and mean spirited if not down right evil. This illustrates the depth of depravity so prevalent in the Republican Party and the lengths they will go to to continue down the path of destruction they have set us upon. If you are Gay, Black, Latino or any other group marginalized by these buffoons and you vote them back in office, then you deserve what you will get, another four years of Bush, discrimination, oppression and utter stagnation of the economy. I believe you all as well as most Americans by now, have more sense than that.

If this blatant a racist propaganda tool was being distributed at a Democratic State Convention it would be blasted across the front pages of America in 36 point type. Where is the outrage that should be present in the press as well as the RNC and it's nominee John McCain? Giggling behind closed doors because they are getting away with spreading such a message with no repercussions. Their time is past, it is time for a change not just of the name on the door to the Oval Office but a change in attitude, policy and party. It is our time, it is our choice, let's make the right choice for America in this most important election of the current era.

Now that I have ranted about the blatant racism and bigotry inherent in the Republican Right Wingnuts, to illustrate some of the more ridiculous claims and statements put out by those same bigoted parties who also oppose Gay marriage, I have a video satire Its All Because (Gays Are Getting Married). This video is followed by a video message from a mom to Senator McCain, Not Alex. The final video for today is former Vice President, Nobel Price and Academy Award winner Al Gore with his speech calling for a change in attitude, policy and party ending with his endorsement of Barack Obama Monday night at a Detroit rally. The videos are followed by today's eye candy section with some tasty morsels for you to enjoy.

One other note before we get to the videos. You guys know how much I advocate the passing of our history to the next generation. Well one of the early pioneers in the recording of GLBT history, especially pre-Stonewall history has died. John D'Emilio writes in the The Gay And Lesbian Review his review of the life of Allan Berube, whom he calls a community historian. Allan Berube's Gift To History is a good read which highlights not only sigificant events in Allan's life but in our common history as well. Take time to check it out and you might even want to pick up Allan's book Coming Out Under Fire which is a history Gays and Lesbians in WWII and the beginnings of the ban on homosexuals in the military. That is it for today, until next time as always, Enjoy!

Howdy, I think your site may be having web browser compatibility issues.
Whenever I look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine but when opening
in IE, it's got some overlapping issues.
I just wanted to provide you with a quick heads up!
Besides that, great site!

I am really inspired together with your writing skills and also with the format in your blog.
Is this a paid subject matter or did you modify it your self?
Anyway keep up the nice high quality writing, it's rare to
see a nice weblog like this one these days..

There is certainly a lot to find out about this subject. I really like all of the points you made.

obviously like your website but you have to check the spelling on quite
a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I to find it very bothersome to
inform the reality then again I'll definitely come back again.
