I am still in recovery mode from this nasty little virus that seems to have taken my life by storm the last few days. The worst part about the whole experience has been my inability to eat anything that resembles a full meal. I get hungry , cook something then can only pick at it before my system says no more. I realize I wanted to lose some weight but this is not the program I had in mind to do so. I am a fabulous cook, having won the hearts of many a young man by going through his stomach. However even my own cooking has tasted like the box instead of the contents inside which does not make for a pleasant dining experience. As a result I have lost about 10 pounds over the last week simply because I cannot eat more than a bite or two at a time. I have the ingredients in house for most of my favorite meals yet I lack the inspiration necessary to prepare them, Why cook it if you can't eat it, right? Anyway, I am feeling somewhat better this morning although the fever associated with the virus still comes and goes at its own willful pace. I know this is going to end I just wish it would hurry up about it, Uncle Gerry does not like being sick one little bit. So let's move on to more pleasant thoughts, shall we?
The marriage gold rush began yesterday all over the Golden State as many long time activists in the fight for the right to marry took advantage of the first opportunity to solemnize their commitment to each other. I expect, as do the "experts", there will be many couples from outside California borders who will travel there for the specific purpose of marriage which will lead to other court suits in other states for recognition of the legal status of their unions. This can only be a good thing as it pushes the envelope a little further outward to expand our basic civil rights. One day this will be the law of the land across the USA, it is a privilege to be able to see this historic battle for equality take one more step down the road to freedom in my lifetime. When I was growing up in Texas in the 50's and 60's, alone, confused and without resources for answers to my growing questions about myself, the thought of this series of events taking place was as foreign to me as having Martians at the dinner table. The civil rights movement was in its infancy back then, I still remember being confused at two identical water fountains marked whites only and colored. The machinery was the same, the water was the same, but the simple dignity of humanity was denied those who deserved it simply because of the color of their skin. African Americans have no choice about being black just as we have no choice about being gay. I have great hopes that this nation will one day bring into reality the promise of the founding fathers in our great documents of equality for all people. The resistance is crumbling as the states begin to legitimize our status as equal citizens in all respects. We have tipped the domino on both coasts, it will be interesting to see the pattern they make as they fall one by one into place in the great puzzle of life. It has been a bumpy ride and it is not over by a long shot. The tunnel is no longer dark, the light we see is not the train heading for us but the dawn of a new day of equality for all. It has been a long time coming, I am glad I lived to see it in my lifetime so that future generations will not have the same struggles those of my generation faced just to be who we are. There is still much work to be done to tear down the walls we have built between ourselves, let's grab a crow bar and tear down a few more planks, shall we?
In the entertainment section today we have a two part Nuke episode and a parody video "I'm Voting Republican" which has over a million views on You Tube this week alone, closely followed by today's eye candy section. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
