A Challenging NIght

Horse Roundup, Montana

Here we are one day away from the weekend already, is it just me or does time seem to be flying past you too? At any rate it was an exciting and challenging night at work which has me all hyper this morning. The night started out quiet enough, Karaoke was shutting down just as I arrived for work, so I had the pleasure of watching the ones who imbibed just a wee bit much sing and dance (or stagger) out the door as I began the Audit. Thing progressed quietly with a couple of check ins and normal paperwork processing until it came time to close out all the cashiers for the day. Yesterday was unusual as we had two cashier who worked the A shift (3 including my little bit in the early morning) and the same two worked on the B shift. Somehow this caused the system to send all the closeout reports for A shift into the ethernet somewhere just not on my reports. I had the money in the safe, the computer just did not say that I did. We hand write a deposit log as a check against the computer and the comparison proved to be off by the exact amount of the A shift deposits. So I woke the Mrs Taj who had worked the day shift at 4 in the morning which is not something I do lightly but as hers was the deposit that was not showing to the tune of 1200 dollars I hoped she could shed some light on the matter. While I was awaiting her arrival to look over what was wrong, I got on the horn to tech support to see if they could help me to recover or discover where the records went. Mrs Taj arrived right I after I had placed the call and I was on hold waiting for a geek to answer my distress call. It seems that there is a quirk in the system that rarely raises it head which when the same cashier is on two shifts back to back sometimes the system hiccups and the reports get lost in the ethernet. The techie came on and patiently worked with me for an hour and a half to reset the flags on their end and on my end I had to reopen and then reclose every cashier that worked yesterday. This of course meant I had to look up passwords etc so I could emulate each cashier for their open and close. After a couple of false starts we got the Activity report to show the correct figures and I could finally close out the day and reset for today. Mrs Taj said good night as she had to come back to relieve me at 8 AM and I went about my business as usual only a couple hours behind schedule. I managed to catch up to where I needed to be fairly quickly and carried on with my morning having everything done by the time the breakfast run started at 7. I don't serve the breakfast but the guest have to come get their vouchers for their free breakfast so sometimes it get hectic. This morning was not too hectic mixing breakfast vouchers and check outs with some check ins and as it got closer to shift end I went to run a preliminary cashiers report for myself so I could verify the funds in the drawer for my deposit. I got a big blue screen and a red line screaming error!!!!!!! call support!!!!! So I thought here we go again, however this time the fix was simple and only took about 10 minutes to get me up and running again. I gained a lot of valuable experience last night learning some of the idiosyncrasies of our system and how to manipulate it to correct these "rare occurrences" when they come along. We have a staff meeting with the GM at 3 so I had better wind this up so I can take some nap time before then.

I do have a little update on yesterdays post, the vendor that produced that racist but for the GOP State Convention in Texas has been barred from participating in future conventions in Texas and also barred from this years national convention. I guess the boys in the back room did not like the spotlight shown on them when the Dallas Morning News broke the story and opened the door on them. The vendor said he did it as a joke and meant no offense. This kind of humor we can do without. He also said the GOP was his biggest client so he was basically out of business because they banned him from participation. I am glad there were some consequences for his actions. This isn't going to make me vote for John McCain, but I am relieved that someone in Texas stepped forward to put bigotry in its place. Unusual for Republicans I know but a welcome sight none the less.

For video today we have Nuke from yesterday, is their trouble in paradise as the bois say good bye to Ameera? Then we have Davey Wavey saying Hello From Toronto, Canada where he is spending the summer again this year. Then just a couple of hours ago Senator Obama released this video about his withdrawal from the Public Campaign Finance system in deference to the grass roots fundraising that he has been so successful at saying "Let's do something that has never been done before". That wraps up today except for the eye candy which follows the videos, you know I would not put up a post with out some now don't you? Until next time as always, Enjoy!
