I Thought The Weekend Was Over

Three Balloons, Chateau D'oex, Switzerland

I work the evening shift from 4-12 on Sunday and Monday nights which usually means long hours of twiddling my thumbs while waiting for my relief to show up form 10 minutes to and hour late. This was not the case on either Sunday or Monday this week as I was busy from the get go to the end. I could have sworn it was weekend as the guests were renting two, three and four rooms at a time. One group which has four double rooms renewed their rooms for another week, they are here doing storm damage repairs. That sale alone was over $1000, add that to the rest of the rooms I rented and my sales were fairly significant especially considering it was a Monday night in NLR. Of course during the busy period when the counter is full of guests, the phone will not quit ringing and generally disrupts the even flow of the process. It makes me wonder if there really is some sadistic demon out there watching for when I am alone and conjuring up more people and phone calls at one time than one could reasonably be expected to handle singlehanded. The good thing is I am getting really fast at manipulating the computer, which is actually just muy mucho repetition of the same actions and knowledge gained from experience using this particular operating system. I can even most times carry on a pleasant conversation with multiple guests while checking in more than one at a time. It gets a little hairy though when you have two guests at the counter both wanting multiple rooms at the same time. One thing is for sure, life is never dull around a busy hotel. Another good thing that came down the pipe today was the GM asked me if I was ready to take the Audit position full time. This is good in any number of ways, the first being 5 straight work days on the same shift at more money than my current rate and the joy kicker is I get to replace the nimnull who is my relief (essentially taking his position) where upon he will be left in the cold. It is not Uncle -like to revel in someone else's misery, but this one has caused his own demise with a long record of tardiness and an arrogant attitude towards almost everyone. He is always demanding respect for his person and position while giving none to anyone else for any reason. So he has nailed the lid on his own coffin and the plan behind the plan is coming to fruition as I have been groomed from the beginning for this exact turn of events. To quote the Colonel from the A Team "I love it when a plan comes together!". It is sometimes hard to see all the machinations taking place when you are in the thick of the action, but I will have to hand it to my owner, Mr. Taj, who has his finger on pulse of a great number of properties and conducts them like a maestro at the podium. Our GM is another seasoned veteran with 35 years in the business. I plan on learning a lot from both of these gentlemen in the coming months and years. Who knows where our journey will take us in the progression of time as the family group of owners have properties both domestic and international. Uncle Gerry likes very much the position in which he finds himself.

With Summer officially underway now, the good ship Hollywood is pumping up the volume about its upcoming Summer Action Films. There looks to be two or three that will be worth the watching. I have the trailers for three films today. The first trailer is for Wanted with and Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy which has an interesting take on "the new world order" and how to manipulate events. The second trailer I have for you is for Will Smith's new film Hancock where he plays a homeless superhero with a like for alcohol, this one should be fun to watch. The final trailer is for Heath Ledger's last film The Dark Knight where Heath plays Joker to Christian Bale's Batman. The film also features Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Val Kilmer. After that I have the preview for today's Nuke episode on ATWT. So lots of video for you today and then Uncle did sort out some tasty numbers for the eye candy section too. That would just about wrap it up for today. Come again tomorrow to see where we end up next on our little journey. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
