History was made last evening when Senator Barack Obama obtained the necessary delegate total to secure the nomination of the Democratic Party for the office of President of the United States of America. In his speech which I have posted below he stated "we are at the end of one journey and the beginning of another" on the road to the White House in the November election. He also said it was "Our time" to stand up for America, to remake her into "the last great hope" we always have been, and will be again, and to rebuild our standing in the world. I could go on but Senator Obama speaks more eloquently than I so I will let you listen for yourself.

Putting politics aside for now for an update on yesterday's post. I had said the GM had asked me if I was ready to take the Auditor position to which I said yes. Well the GM made his mind up to move the plan to fruition by announcing my predecessor's demise to him at the end of his shift. Understandably in his arrogance he did not take it so well and tried to play havoc by removing the xls spreadsheet he had created for the daily report from the hotels computer system. Under threat of arrest with the officer standing there beside the GM and myself, he restored the spreadsheet minus the data. I recovered the data and restored the spreadsheet to its up to date form, created multiple backups in separate locations and assured the GM that I had no argument with the spreadsheet being the intellectual property of the hotel all in about two hours. So I am now the Auditor with a six day schedule for the foreseeable future. This is fine by me as I can use the overtime to salt away for upcoming projects like (gasp, is it possible?) a car of my own for the first time in six years. For all the beauty and peace surrounding me to be enjoyed as well as night time activities to pursue, the public transportation in the River Cities is somewhat limited. The last bus that comes by the hotel does so at 7 pm so that means if I go out it is a taxi ride back across the river which adds a little much to the cost of couple of drinks while checking out the bois on the dance floor. However one of our extended stay guests that works in one of the local Gay clubs says there is also one just down Main Street close to Broadway, which is a walk of a couple of miles (doable, sober). I will have to check that one out, a cab from there would not be too much to get home either. But I digress, as the auditor I no longer change shifts so I can get my body clock adjusted to one time frame not two or three, plus I can plan daytime or evening activities and plan my rest accordingly. There are many advantages to this position for me and I am hoping to make the most of the opportunity that has presented itself.
