Democratic Fail

The 2014 mid term elections were a resounding victory for conservatives and a disaster for liberals and progressives.  While there was some good news, most of it was anywhere from irritating to ugly and got worse as the returns came in.  You may view Jon Stewart's and Stephen Colbert's take on the election results.  Towleroad's legal eagle Ari Ezra Waldman provides us  Three lessons from the mid term election results for LGBT Equality.  There are a great many more election reports worth reading or viewing, but I really don't want to beat a dead horse here.  Let's just say we must regroup, learn from our mistakes and do better next time.  In the meantime, look for petty vindictiveness and assorted bullshit from a Congress controlled by conservative assholes while they try to undo progress,  throw us back to the Stone Age of Equality and destroy President Obama's legacy all at the same time.  "Hang on Blanche, it's going to be a bumpy ride!"

In one piece of non election good news was the Sports Illustrated nomination of Michael Sam as Sportsman of the Year. The money quote from the article:

Sam could have played it all so differently. He could have tried to tap into our sympathies, presented himself as a victim struggling against the homophobia of the league and of segments of the public. But he repeatedly said he wanted to be considered a football player first, and he backed that up by simply playing football. He never complained about things he had every right to complain about.

By choosing not to do anything except play, Sam showed a toughness that can't be measured by tackles or sacks. He left the social commentary to others, knowing that he would lend power to the LGBT struggle for equality just by putting on his pads. Even though he hasn't made it into a regular season NFL game yet -- he was cut by the Rams in the preseason and then released from the Cowboys practice squad - his mere presence in the league has made a difference.

It would be extremely hard to find someone else who has so dominated the sports news this year other than Michael Sam.  Let's hope SI does the right thing as the NFL seems unable to step up for equality because they have a stick up their ass when it comes to Gays in Football.

Your Midweek Symphony Shot today is Symphony Number 3 'The Great National' by Muzio Clementi.  Clementi (24 January 1752 -- 10 March 1832) was a composer, pianist, pedagogue, conductor, music publisher, editor, and piano manufacturer. Born in Rome, he spent most of his life in England.  Today's performance is by the Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Francesco d'Avalos.  You may also hear Clementi's Piano Sonata Op. 12 No. 1 in B-flat Major with Pietro Spada at the Piano over on my tumblr.

Last but not least is the collection of sexily soaked studs in this edition of Wet Wednesday on display below the video.  Your Hottie of the Day! over on my tumblr is wet, wild and naked Alejandro de la Guardia.  Tomorrow there will be no post as I have a schedule of events so heavy as to preclude any such attempt on my part.  We will see you again on Friday.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
