Happy Independence Day!

Today is the first day of a three day holiday for most folks here in the US, however most folks does not include me.  I have my regular 10 hour shift on Friday night from 5 PM to 3 AM then bounce back at 3 PM tomorrow.  I catch a breather on Sunday when I only work 5-8 PM then I am off on Monday.  So while you guys are having your 'beer and brats' and watching fireworks, I will be at the register selling you beer, wine, soda and snacks all night waiting on the truck to arrive.  Here's hoping the truck is not 'delayed' like it was 2 weeks ago when it did not arrive until 3 AM.  Still, I am going to enjoy what little time off I have today before beginning my  normal Fraturday marathon.  

A great deal of anyone's enjoyment of almost any holiday in America comes from the evening concerts by bands and symphonies from coast to coast along with the attendant fireworks displays.  While I cannot attend tonight's Concert in the Garden by the Fort Worth Symphony at the Botanical Gardens, I will be able to see their fireworks from my register.  The Concerts in the Garden is an extremely popular annual event with the FWSO and the fine folks here in FW.  I have two favorite staples of any Patriotic Concert: John Phillip Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever and the stirring and unforgettable 1812 Overture by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.  Your Independence Day Musical Moment here features Erich Kunzel conducting the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra along with the Kiev Symphony Chorus and Children's Choir in their performance of the Tchaikovsky masterpiece.  You can then hear Sousa's ultimate march for which he is best known over on my tumblr.
