A Little Romance and A Little History to Start the Week

All of you who are regular readers of these pages know by now that I am an unabashed hopeless romantic.  In fact my default choice in film, literature, movies or videos is to go for the romance.  You should also know that I am a bit of a history buff whether it is history in general or LGBT history in particular.  In today's post I get to merge both the element of romance and the element of history into one presentation.

The longest running soap opera daytime history is Days of Our Lives watched by thousands of people on a daily basis.  This well written and performed daily drama made a little history last week in a 3 day story arc.  Over the last couple of years, fans of the show have watched the struggle of the character Will Horton to come to terms with his sexuality, the birth of his daughter Arianna and his romance with Sonny Kiriakis.  The romance between Will and Sonny has had its ups and downs, however the courtship culminated beautifully when they tied the knot in the first same sex marriage between two men in the history of daytime television.  (The first between two women was in 2009 on All My Children, when Tamara and Eden married.)  Of course soap operas take forever to tell a story and there were clips from the show posted to You Tube daily.  Luckily for me, an industrious You Tuber edited all the clips together into one 49 minute video which I have posted below (how could I not?).  There were little side dramas set against the back drop of the wedding day, after all that is the part and parcel of a soap opera.  The wedding which begins about 22 minutes into the video was done beautifully with Will and Sonny walking down the aisle on the arms of their respective mothers to the strains of Pachelbel's Canon.  Before the vows, Will and Sonny had asked several people in their lives to speak.  I won't spoil the adventure but I will tell you I liked Will's Great Grandma's speech the best.

Will and Sonny wrote their own vows and I thought about posting the transcript of them here along with the video.  Then I thought I would just let you wait impatiently until they came up in the video.  (I know that's evil of me!)  Whether or not you are a fan of Days of Our Lives, this story arc was historical and represents another big step along the way to Equality for all of us.  So grab a hanky and spend a little time with Will and Sonny on the biggest day of their lives.

Today's edition of Monday with Mozart features four Sonatas for Violin and Piano taken from disc 3 of this 4 disc boxed set recorded by Anne-Sophie Mutter on Violin accompanied by Lambert Orkis on Piano.  Included in the play list are the Sonata in C, K.296; the Sonata in E flat, K.380; the Sonata in F, "für Anfänger", K.547 and the Sonata in D, K.306.  For more Monday with Mozart head over to my tumblr for the 1986 recording of Alicia de Larrocha performing the Fantasy in C minor, K.475 and the Sonata in C minor, K.457

Then what would Monday be around these pages without a goodly number of muscly men in their underwear which you will find in this week's edition of Monday's Undies on display below the play list.  Also, be sure to check our your Hottie of the Day! over on my tumblr.  Thanks for starting your week here at Nichevo, see you again tomorrow.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
