Most of you by now have surely heard of the horrendously repressive anti-Gay legislation passed into law and signed by President Vladimir Putin into law in the Russian Republic. Petit Czar Putin heads a government that reminds me of the hey day of Uncle Joe Stalin with its persecution of personas non grata. Instead of Jews, Intellectuals and political Dissidents (although those groups are certainly still not popular with the government), today's disfavored minority are the members of the LGBT community. Anti-Gay Activists, aided and abetted by the Russian Orthodox Church after being given virtual blanket immunity from prosecution, have mounted a Pogrom of virtually state sanctioned homophobia and violence against all things homosexual in Russia of which these photographs will attest. This horrific video will also give testament to the depths of depravity and persecution to which the LGBT community has been subjected. Not only are they persecuting their own citizens, but foreign visitors have also been subjected to arrest and prosecution for acts of propaganda such as speaking with or to Gay people or video recording events in their lives. Wayne Besen of Truth Wins Out calls theses Homosexual Pogroms, Hogroms. Besen, along with Dan Savage, Brenden Shucart and others are mounting a campaign of their own to boycott all things Russian especially Russian Vodka. Vodka is Russia's largest selling export other than military technology, and hitting Russia in the wallet may be the best way to make Putin and the rest of the thuggish priests and persecutors realize that violent homophobia does not pay.
I encourage you to join in this boycott by refusing to buy Russian products, especially vodka and encourage your local Gay bars and businesses to do the same. We need to do all we can to support our Gay brothers and sisters that are being so horribly persecuted in Russia. I know that Russia is pretty far away, but by participating in this boycott and encouraging your friends, local Gay bars and businesses to do the same will make an impact that will be felt in the back pocket of the Russian government who will then have to do something to stop the persecution and violence or suffer economically big time. Russia is just making me sick. What they are doing, and the video clips I've seen of their skinheads luring young gay youths out in order to bully and abuse them? It's beyond disheartening. There are no words.
