May Your Spirit Fly Free

As an unabashed Gleek, I was shocked and saddened on hearing the news of the untimely death of actor Cory Monteith, age 31, in Vancouver on Saturday.  His body was discovered shortly after noon by hotel staff when he missed his scheduled checkout.  An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause of death,  although according to police, no foul play is expected.  His cast mate and real life girl friend, Lea Michele, is said to be distraught and inconsolable.  His role as Finn, his on again, off again romance with Rachel (Lea Michele) along with the romance between Kurt (Chris Colfer)  and Blaine (Darren Criss) has been central to and one of the main forces propelling the series during the first four seasons.  I will be interested to see how they handle his death when the new season starts.  I would hope and do believe it will be a class act along the same lines as the tribute to the late Whitney Houston last season.  I am sure it will change the dynamics of the plot, but I surely hope it will not be the cause of the demise of the series which has already been renewed for seasons 5 and 6.

Cory, like many young people everywhere had his demons and struggles with drugs and alcohol.  However cast mates, family and friends said he remained an affable, kind hearted and cheerful man through it all.  Kind and compassionate, Cory was a great ally to the LGBT community and beloved by family, friends and fans around the world.  RIP Cory, may your Spirit Fly Free and find Rest in the Bosom of God.  You will be sorely missed.

Your Monday
