The Flicker Sparks A Flame

Yesterday was a beautiful day with brilliant sunshine and a high temperature around 59 degrees Fahrenheit.  When last we spoke I said the doctors had given us a flicker of hope, although faint, still a flicker of hope.  Well that flicker has sparked a flame that once ignited grows ever brighter by the hour.  After my chore and errands list was accomplished, I went to sit with Mother at the hospital.  When I arrived about 10:15 it was to find Mother awake and visiting with Billy and Mary, two of her cousins whom Mother had raised when she was not much more than a child herself.  Defying all odds and surprising not only my brothers and I but the doctors as well,  my Mother is determined to live.  She was frustrated a bit because the particular doctor who could order the extubation was not going to be there until evening.  She wanted to be able to talk and eat on her own with out the tube down her throat being in the way.  She was communicating by writing down what she wanted to say.  She told me that she was happy to see me and 'I love you' which was music to my heart.  I left to get something to eat and some rest around 4:45.

After working all night, doing my chores and errands, then happily visiting with my Mother, I had yet to sleep.  I was a happy tired and more than just a little hungry.  I came home, fixed a dinner of BBQ Smoked Sausage, Au Gratin Potatoes and Ranch Style Beans.  Shortly after 7 PM, I took all my medicines, along with some sleep aid and headed for the bed for an extended nap.  I did not awaken until 1 AM today then sort of drifted in and out sitting at my computer until I really began to wake up between 4 and 5.  I am looking forward to visiting my Mother this morning to watch her continue to recover.  This miracle of life snatched from the doorstep of death was the answer to many prayers by people too numerous to mention.  I am grateful for each and every one who offered a prayer to whatever higher power they believe in for this modern miracle of the gift of my Mother's life restored.

"There's a clock timing the world as it turns,
There's a man marking the candle as it burns,
Keeping track of every minute that remains.
Still we hope somehow,
It's gonna be alright,
It's gonna turn out fine."
