Marriage Equality gained momentum in two states yesterday as the Illinois Senate Executive Committee advanced the bill for Marriage Equality to the floor of the Senate for a vote by the full chamber. It is still not clear when that will take place, but the major hurdle of getting it up for the vote has been cleared. This of course pissed of NOM who is threatening to spend multiple thousands of dollars against any Republican who supports the Equality measure after the head of the Republican Party in Illinois endorsed Marriage Equality. If they have pissed off NOM, then they are doing something right! Nothing like desperate measures by political dinosaurs who need to dry up and blow away. Either that of just STFU already.
Meanwhile in Rhode Island, both chambers of the legislature introduced Marriage Equality bills yesterday. The House bill has 40 of the 75 representatives as co-sponsors. The Senate has 11 of the 38 Senators as co-sponsors and it is expected to be a tougher fight for passage in the Senate. The Governors of both Rhode Island and Illinois have endorsed the measures and said they will sign Marriage Equality bills if they reach their desks.
While on the subject, here is a lovely story about Eric Marcoux and Eugene Woodworth of Oregon who will celebrate 60 years together on June 13, 2013. Congratulations guys, may your happiness continue unabated!
Then for good measure, History was made today when 20 women were sworn in as new Senators in the US Senate including the first openly LGBT Senator, Tammy Baldwin. I bet you this will shake up all the old white guys that just think they run the place (not anymore!).
It was a little disappointing to see John Boehner re-elected Speaker of the House while the House Republicans passed a measure for more money for DOMA defense. They also turned their noses up at aid for the victims of Hurricane Sandy and Women's Rights. I sure wish these guys would wake up to the fact that they are a dying breed and come on into the 21st century before they become totally obsolete anachronisms of irrational thought. Their time is coming and I would not want to be them when the comeuppance arrives.
For your aural pleasure today, we have Symphony Number 1 in F Major by Swedish Composer Wilhelm Stenhammer with a performance by the oldest orchestra in Sweden, The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Neeme Jarvi. The painting in the video is Art from the Video Game "Ghost World Online". Then as is traditional here at Nichevo on Fridays, we have this collection of men with nothing to hide with this week's edition of Naked or Nearly So. Thanks for spending some time with me today. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
