NFC East In Three Way Tie At The Top!

The only thing that could have made yesterday better for the Dallas Cowboys than it was would have been for the Cleveland Browns to have stepped up to the plate and beaten the Washington Redskins.  As it is, there is a 3 way tie atop the NFC East between the Redskins, Cowboys and Giants.  The first thing that went right for the Cowboys was the pummeling of the Giants by the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome, 34-0.  That was probably the worst performance by the Giants all season, and the lost dropped them into a tie with the Redskins, 38-21 winners over the aforementioned Cleveland Browns.  That left it up to the Cowboys to find a way to be the Number 1 NFL Defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers and somehow come away from the contest with a victory at home.  Not always an easy task, The Cowboys have not yet made the Taj ma-Jones a decided home field advantage ala the old Texas Stadium.  On hand among the 95,000 or so folks in attendance were some 15,000 rabid, terrible towel waving Steeler fans who made a lot of noise during the game, but in the end had to use those terrible towels to wipe away their tears at the bitter loss in OT to the Cowboys.  In what was perhaps the best game of the day and possibly the season for this Dallas Cowboy club was anything but easy.  This game had drama, agony and ecstasy enough for everyone in attendance as well as the TV audience from around the world.  The Cowboys for once went up 10-0 early but the Steelers scored 10 points in the last 6 minutes of the first half to tie it up at 10-all.  The Cowboys moved back in front 17-10 when Tony Romo hit Dez Bryant for a 24 yard score in the corner of the End Zone.  That did not last long as the Steelers answered right back with a 60 catch and run down to the Dallas 2 and scoring soon after to once again tie the game, this time at 17-17.  In short order at the beginning of the  fourth quarter the Steelers took their first lead on a Touchdown pass from Big Ben Rothlisberger to receiver Andre Brown who broke the plane of the goal line to go up 24-17.  The Cowboys next possession ended in a punt which the Steelers had a good run back going when returner Antonio Brown scooting through the Cowboys for 22 yard before the Cowboys Victor Butler stripped Brown of the ball which John Phillips immediately smothered for the Cowboys, setting them up with a short field at the Steeler 44.  Romo worked the Cowboys down to the 3 yard line when DeMarco Murray darted virtually untouched into the End Zone to tie the game at 24.

The Steelers next two drives ended with sacks by DeMarcus Ware, two by Anthony Spencer and Sean Lissamore.  Regulation time ended with the 24-24 tie sending the game into Overtime.  The Steelers won the coin toss and elected to receive starting their first OT possession at their  own 20 yard line.  On the second play Big Ben was trying to get the ball to receiver Mike Wallace when the Cowboys Brandon Carr jumped the route, intercepting the ball and returning it to the Steeler 1 yard line.  The Cowboys Dan Bailey kicked the winning Field Goal two plays later, just 84 seconds into the OT for a major, hard fought win by the Cowboys, winners of 5 of their last 6 games when no one thought they could do it.  This leaves the NFC East in a 3 way tie with both the Redskins and the Cowboys holding a tie breaker over the Giants and the Redskins with one on  the Cowboys.  The final two weeks of the season  all three teams will be playing for all the marbles in the East and whoever wins out will take the Division Crown into the play offs.  The Giants face the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore and then close the season with the Eagles.  The Resdskins play the Eagles next week then host the Cowboys in week 17.  The Cowboys host New Orleans next Sunday before traveling to Washington for the showdown with the Redskins.  If the Cowboys win out they would take the Division Crown into the playoffs.  No matter how you slice it, the week 17 match up between the Redskins and Cowboys will be for all the marbles, no matter what happens with the Giants.  Going to be a great two weeks of football, no matter what and your intrepid Uncle will be watching and reporting back to you.  All together now and LOUDLY: "Let's Go Cowboy's!!!"

Your play list for today features 6 Sonatas for Mandolin and Harpsichord by Domenico Scarlatti, K 81, 88, 89, 90,  and 91.  The performance for today is by Ugo Orlandi on Mandolin and Sergio Vartolo on Harpsichord.  I think I have featured this one before, but it seemed to fit my mood this morning so there you have it.  The play list is followed by a rather enchanting and eclectic collection of men of various types, sizes and ethnic origins who are clad (mostly) in their Monday's Undies for your visual appreciation.  Thank you for spending some time with me today, see you tomorrow.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
