It has been an interesting morning both at the store and here at home. The self contained liquid cooling unit arrived yesterday afternoon and was duly installed before Will went to bed. After he went to bed, I did the prep work for today's post while fixing dinner. I then ate and went to work and that is when things began to get interesting. It was one of those nights where anyone and everyone in the neighborhood with a screw loose or a sob story insisted on paying a visit to the corner of Crazy Avenue and Stupid Street. Add in an occasional semi delusional freakazoid wandering through and you have the definition of 'interesting'. The high point of the evening/morning was when the duty Captain from the FWPD came to visit over a plate of Buffalo Wings for a little while. The only really sane moment there was as it turns out. Towards the end of the Captain's visit, Will called and it went to voice mail before I could pick up. The voice mail said he needed me to call him back as his Geek Guru was off line talking to his boyfriend and Will needed guidance on where to run the wiring and the installation of the HDD and DVD Burner. I had to call about 4 times over about an hour and a half before he picked up and then spent about 45 or 50 minutes trying to keep him calm and figure out what he was doing without being able to see what it was that was giving him the problem. Then the Geek Guru came on line and I got to go back to finishing up my duties before the morning rush started. I expected great progress on the super computer by the time I returned home from work. I did indeed find great progress along with an unforeseen bit of technical difficulty as the super computer would not boot up the BIOS for configuration so that the OS could be installed. As it turns out the DDR3 RAM that was purchased seems to be incompatible with the motherboard so the motherboard had nothing to work with in order to boot up the BIOS. So now I have to ship the RAM we have back to New Egg while Will picks new RAM from the compatibility list that New Egg has now provided. Essentially then we have taken two steps forward and one step back as all the rest of the systems seem to be operable. The HDD spins up, the DVD drive cycles and all the lights and fans work as well as the aforementioned liquid cooling system. So now we wait a few days again for delivery of the new RAM so that we can do all the configurations and software installs necessary for the super computer to actually be more than a box of metal and wires that looks pretty on the floor. Stay tuned for further updates as they become available.
For today's musical interlude I have a Bach Recital by Tatiana Nikoleyeva recorded live in Tokyo in 1982.
