Boy, do I have a truckload of goodies for you guys today. Let's start off with a couple of excellent reads (h/t to Towleroad) that I ran across in my Google Reader. The first is a moving article from the current issue of GQ, the one with the yummy QB form the NY Jets, Mark Sanchez, on the cover. In Tell: An Intimate History of Gays in the Military, GQ has recorded interviews with Gay Service Members, both Veteran and currently serving, of their experiences as Gay Men in the service of our country. Their stories resonated with me especially as I too served in the Navy during the Viet Nam error and was separated for being Gay. My service was so exemplary that they had to award me a Good Conduct Medal before kicking me out for not being "good enough". I have lived with the stigma of official US Government Rejection for 35 years now and it has adversely affected my life in many ways. I am so glad to see the final repeal of the odious DADT rule coming up next month so that future generations of loyal LGBT Americans will not have to go through what I have.
Then there is the amazing story of Sam Brinton in Survivor: MIT Grad Student Remembers "EX-Gay" Therapy. Sam, the son of two Southern Baptist ministers was subject to some really brutal beatings at the hands of his parents and even more brutal treatment from the "religious therapists" they sent him to for "repair". Both stories are "must reads" from both a historical and political viewpoint. Your time would be well spent in reading them.
It has been a long time since I posted any of the videos produced by Davey Wavey, but today I felt I must share with you guys the pilot episode of his new Web Series, Davey Wavey Uncut, in which Davey, his family and friends share there coming out stories on location in Provincetown, MA recorded on the day before Davey's 28th birthday. Davey's friends tell some pretty good stories but Momma Wavey was especially awesome in this video. A cool half hour spent with some amazing folks.
Then of course we could not forget the music. I put together a play list with a pictorial biography of composer Franz Liszt set to his Hungarian Rhapsody Number 2 in C Sharp Minor along with Valentina Lisitsa's beautiful performance of one of his more difficult piano pieces, The Totentanz. Another totally awesome half hour full of factoids and beautiful music.
And finally there are the men. As it is Friday, I thought it would be a good time for another edition of Naked or Nearly So to light a fire under your Friday Night Fantasies. So there you have the whole truckload. Be sure to stop by again tomorrow for the Best of the Web This Week as I try to narrow down all the outstanding photographs I have gathered this week to a select few that are truly "drool worthy"! Thanks for stopping by, do come again soon. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
