I gathered some truly outstanding photographs this week making it hard to limit the selection of just a few for your review and perusal. As a result there are some 72 photographs in today's edition of Best of the Web This Week. That number of photographs requires a longer set of music to accompany it so I thought a complete symphony would be appropriate. I chose Mozart's Symphony Number 39 in E Flat Major performed by John Eliot Gardiner and The English Baroque Soloists. The videos were uploaded by a You Tuber who calls himself the Crazy Cello whose video description does ever more justice to the music than I could hope to, therefore his video description is as follows:
"I love the nocturnal feel of this Symphony, so I've uploaded it with modern photographs taken around Vienna at night rather than the usual period artwork. It was common for oboes to be replaced by clarinets in 18th Century performances of symphonies, as clarinet players were often readily available in towns with marching bands. However in this work, Mozart makes a conscious artistic choice in scoring for an orchestra with clarinets in the place of oboes. In the manner of his earlier "mature" symphony, (The Prague symphony, No. 38) he adds a flute, two bassoons, two trumpets and timpani to the standard symphonic line up, although the 'cello part has less independence from the basso part. This scoring, along with the brooding introduction and hushed first theme, give this night-time feel to the work. Albeit not lacking in energy as the following tutti demonstrates, with wild leaps over a pulsating woodwind motor, Mannheimian rockets and rushing descending scales mirroring the introduction. This work has occasionally been dubbed "Mozart's Eroica", mainly due to the key and similarity in opening theme."
Thanks for coming to visit today, we will see you again on Monday for some undie adoration. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
