Tuesday's Temptations

Happy Tuesday All!  Today I thought we would visit with another of my favorites, violinist and composer Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713) who was an "iconic point of reference" for many of the famous 18th century violinist/composers.  Many violinists can be traced back from student to teacher to Arcangelo Corelli through the Corelli School in Rome.  He was a favorite of Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni who in 1689 became Pope Alexander VIII.  His first major success was in Paris at the age of 19 and from Paris he traveled to Bavaria where he was in service of the electoral prince.  Eventually landing in Rome where he presided over the famous Monday concerts in the palace of Cardinal Ottoboni.  I have two pieces for you today, the first is the Violin Sonata Opus 5, Number 4 performed by Nigel North and the second is a Concerto Grosso Opus 6, Number 8 in a 2007 performance by the all female group, Seraphina.  To accompany these two excellent examples of Corelli's work I once again went deep in the archives for some classic examples for your Tuesday's Temptations.  Thank you for visiting today, be sure to return again soon.  Until next time as always, Enjoy!
