Yundi Li Plays Chopin

Before I get into the much of anything today I would like to extend my condolences to Ryan at Ryan's Life, one of my oldest blog buddies, on the passing of his Grandfather in Ohio.  Ryan was in attendance when he passed and my heart goes out to him and his family at this time of loss and celebration of the life that was his Grandfather.

What I have for you today is a brilliant performance by a young Chinese national at the 14th Chopin International competition in 2000.  Yundi Li was a mere 18 years old when he emerged the victor in this prestigious competition.  The video contains his complete performance and runs just over an hour.  The pieces are, of course, all by Chopin, the acknowledged master of the piano as a composer.  The first piece is the Scherzo Number 2 in B-flat minor, Opus 31 followed by the Andante Spinato preceding the Grand Polonaise Brilliante in E-flat Major, Opus 22.  His final piece is the complete Piano Concerto Number 1 in E minor, Opus 11 with full orchestra.  Mr Li's performance is flawless in its execution and worthy of his victory.  Interestingly enough, his facial expressions remind me of Yo Yo Ma when he plays the cello.  The entire performance is played without sheet music, so his performance is from both the head and the heart.

After Mr Li's performance are some right gorgeous young men who are sure to tempt you on this Tuesday.   Until next time as always, Enjoy!
