Happy Tuesday all! I thought I would feature one of the lesser heard instruments in concerts in the modern world, yet one that is extremely versatile and which can adapt to many styles of music. Before the pianoforte came into existence the main keyboard instrument in European households was the harpsichord, whereas the organ was mostly contained in the cathedrals of the time. Many composers in that era wrote extensively for the harpsichord and the instrument was very popular in salons and soirees. The harpsichord was definitely the instrument of choice to entertain ones guests no matter how large or small the party. I have chosen concertos by Bach, Mozart and Handel to illustrate the versatility of this under appreciated (in modern times) instrument. Then, of course, I have selected some tasty temptations for your viewing pleasure and posted them below the videos. This should make for an pleasant interlude for your Tuesday. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
