I must admit to being very weepy this morning for the reason of friendships realized. But they are happy tears, not sad. You really find who your true friends are when you go to the hospital. I have received so many well wishes and phone calls from everyone, even my Mother. You may ask why would getting a phone call from my Mother would be a cause for weepiness, but this is the first call she has initiated to me in about 25 years, hence my joy! So I guess I should tell you the story of my little adventure into the world of the crash cart.
When I awoke on Tuesday night I was not feeling particularly well, but did not have the option of calling in as the boss was still on vacation and there really was not a sub for my services. I arrived and things were OK for a while except that my hands would not work, I could not pick up or hold anything, I dropped everything I touched. Of course we were busy as all the government assistance folks were playing pretend rich as they got their money on Monday. Next week they will be begging me to finance their beer habit, but I digress. Then my legs started spasming. About two hours into the shift as I passed a grill item to a customer two paramedics were at the coffee bar as I grabbed the grill cover for support. I asked the one to check my blood pressure before beginning to fall back. Luckily he caught me before I hit the floor or the experience could have been much worse. My hands were tingling, breath was short and rapid and my Blood Pressure was 178 over 80. I then went into full body spasms, scaring everyone but especially myself. The two paramedics, Atif Raja and Casey Cloud saved my life. They were cool, calm and collected as they worked to slow my breathing and check my vitals, all of which were elevated. Atiff asked me if I wanted to be transported before I started the convulsions, and the decision was made for me. About this time the vice squad showed up having heard the radio call to JPS, I asked them to watch over Sergio until someone could get there and I was assured they would before I was wheeled out on the cart. Inside the ambulance they started an IV, gave me some aspirin to chew up, asked me like a million questions before spraying nitro glycerin under my tongue, twice. I asked Atiff to call Will on my cell phone as I was not going to have him left wondering where I was when I did not come home and then my Mother as I really did not know if I was dying or not. I know I felt like shit, I was burning up even with all the ac vents pointed at me and was continuing to spasm uncontrollably.
Upon arrival at the hospital, it was like entering my own personal care facility, I knew all the cops and paramedics, they frequent my store and all of them came to check on me. Will was already calling to find out about me, the nurse looked up and said do you know Will and I motioned for the phone. Bless his heart, he was as scared as me, but I tried to calm him down a little as they checked me in. They were unable to get a good electrocardiogram as the spasms continued, after about 10 minutes they were finally able to stabilize me enough to get an accurate one, before rolling me into code blue territory, room 33. When I got to the room they hooked enough wires to me to run a power plant and then asked another million questions, doped me up and then x-rayed my heart. Then took what seemed to be a gallon of blood (5 vials) before allowing me to sleep. The doctor came in after a bout an hour and talked to me, asking another million questions, then I slept again. I woke up around three and called Will, apparently incoherently, before falling back to sleep. They gave me a ream of discharge papers and instructions before sending me to the discharge desk. There I cracked up the staff when I gave them the address of the store as Crazy Ave and Stupid Street not far from Really Fucking Weird, then was sent on my way.
I was a nickle short of bus fare in cash and could not find someplace to use my debit card, so I called Sergio, who came immediately to pick me up along with his 8.75 month pregnant wife. They drove me to my car at the store where I checked in with them and got a couple days off. Sandra, Sergio's wife drove me in my car to the house following Sergio and they got me inside and woke up Will to let him know I was home around 8 am. I slept off and on all day before cooking dinner for Will and I, I will not have him cook, that would be like having fat man or little boy explode in my kitchen (lol). and then took another nap. I am feeling much better but must go take a cardio stress test at the clinic here in a little while. I will keep you guys up dated on my progress here on these pages. I must add a big Thank You to Atiff, Casey and Will, my heroes all without whom I would not be writing these words here today.
For today's eye candy I have these Random Hot Shotz from my current gatherings. Until next time a s always, Enjoy!
