Random Thoughts

"Sunset at Sea"

Two days before Christmas and all is quiet around the blog. Hmmm.....what to write about today is a question I face every day. Many times it is easy to answer, a lot of times not quite so easy. It is a slow news week except for that whole Rick Warren flap that refuses to die. Taken in the context given by Vice-President-elect Biden on the talk shows yesterday, that of an olive branch as part of President-elect Obama's reaching out and across the aisle to try and coalesce all Americans into a semi-cohesive coalition, it sorta makes sense. Although I do agree with a lot of the activists who regard "Pastor Rick" as offensive. Even if I were not a Gay man, I would probably find this fool offensive, but that is just me and my aversion to sacrilegious, sanctimonious hypocrites who prey on those they claim to "love with all their hearts" while bilking them of millions of dollars to support their lavish lifestyles. End of Rant.......Things are running fairly smoothly at the store and there is no drama to report. Most of the customers are in the Spirit of the Season (or at least some spirits) and it is mostly a fun day all day. The day I dread is Thursday. We are the only show in town for the first 12 or 14 hours of Christmas so if anybody this side of Saturn happens to need anything they come to our 7-11 because it is the only place open. This usually means a quite busy day until the theatres open and the kids go to the movies and the parents take naps before the evening round of parties begin and it picks up again. I will be working the first shift so all of you guys think of me as you open your presents and unstuff your stockings on Christmas morning.

As for today, it is warming up but kinda rainy so that means the battle of the footy prints is on again today. We will loose but will fight valiantly in the meantime. No matter how cold it gets in Texas, usually it warms up for Christmas and it looks as if this year will be no different. That just means people will get out and about more so than if it was colder and sooner or later they will end up at 7-11. So I will work on keeping the Spirit of the Season alive in me if it kills me. I am desperately trying to avoid my Auntie Holiday alter ego so as not to seem to much of an Ebenezer Scrooge to everyone else's Bob Cratchit. So far it is working (knock on wood). And in that spirit I went searching for even more Stocking Stuffers for Good Little Boys, however some of these guys today have more than a little Naughty in them. But then, we can't all dream of sugar plums all the time now can we? Until next time as always, Enjoy!
