Cold Day / Hot Sales!

"Silence"

My prediction about lots of hot coffee, donut and hot food sales for Monday were nothing short of prophetic as I could not keep food on the grill. Not that I am complaining, business was terrific, I had a couple of A list employees on duty with me so I really just had to point and click all day and wait on customers. It was truly a non stress day for as much business as we did. I left the store in the hands of another set of A listers so operations should go smoothly as the third shift today also is A listers. I am lucky we had such good fortune in finding the new hires we have as they have all worked out wonderfully. I like coming into the store in the mornings and finding it like I used to have it for my mentor when she came in when I was her main night man. I don't have to finish the day before before I can begin my own day, I just have to organize my own. It makes it easy to concentrate on making the customer experience better when I don't have to clean up after someone whose job it was to do it in the first place. I also like not having to constantly think for employees who should be able to think for themselves. Guidance is one thing, dragging them around like an anchor is another. Fortunately we cut the cable on the heaviest of the anchors we had and the others have generally drifted off under their own incompetence to be replaced by the ones we have who are capable of intelligent thought and motion at the same time. Each day presents new learning experiences for all of us and many opportunities to pass on the knowledge we have already gained. It does make for a very satisfying work experience. The energy level in the store is very high, almost a physical presence which bolsters the effervescence of my crew members and spills over to the customers. We have a very happy store that people are more and more eager to shop in. I will be glad when the government quits dragging its collective feet and gets us our food stamp license granted. This store has always accepted food stamps/EBT transactions. The USDA though says the new owner has to take possession of the business before being able to apply for the license. Then they have to send and inspector (done!) and then fuck around for another 10 days before they make a decision. Which is going to be yes as a major part of the business of this store has always been EBT's. We are missing several hundred dollars a day in sales until we get the license. We have the equipment and the customers, we just need the paper from the government. Thank you George for making your administration so efficient, not! But I digress from the happiness, overall I am extremely pleased with our accomplishments so far and am eager to continue our progress toward our goals.

I haven't checked the news or anything so I don't know what is happening today yet so I guess I should just post a few Tuesday Temptations to distract you from productive activities for a little while. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
