Fire On The Mountain
...If you remember this post where I told you about how my buddy back in Big D had me author a business plan for him which was successful in getting the franchise granted. My buddy offered me the GM position at a good salary and benefit package as well as moving services back to the metroplex. I of course went to my present employer and told them I had an offer from a company back home in hopes of receiving a counter offer to stay here as I felt they valued my services. What I received was not what I was expecting. The owner of the hotel called my buddy instructing him to fire or refuse to hire me so I would be forced to stay here to remain employed. Then he met with me telling me he could meet the money if I wanted to work 7 days a week. No raise or benefit package was mentioned, but the prospective business was belittled and marginalized while my current position was hyped. I found myself not wanting to believe this was the best that could be placed on the table. Nor could I honestly bring myself to trust what I was hearing to be what would happen. To this day he does not know that I know he did his best to undermine my opportunity, so he must think I am either stupid or naive if he thinks I can put my trust in a corporation which would deny a man an opportunity for advancement for its own selfish manipulative interest. Now I know business is business, but my current employer has no right to try to deny me an opportunity at another company in a totally unrelated industry just so he would not have to replace me. I for one am not irreplaceable and two, I do not give someone that much power over my life as to control where I live and work. I did not write the business plan with a position for me in mind, I wrote it to secure a business franchise for my friend because I was familiar with the industry by having worked in it. My buddy paid me for my services and I thought nothing more of it. Until 3 weeks ago when he offered me this position which I subsequently accepted. Now comes the hard part. The GM here at the hotel knows I am leaving and when. The owner knows I may leave but thinks I now have no position on the table or his argument convinced me to stay here. The problem is when I do tell the owner, if I do not do it with proper timing with the right set of people present, he would probable give me a half hour to get my shit and git. He has done that before when pissed off at not being successful in his manipulations. The GM and I talked over this problem and he advised telling him when the bigger boss in the corporation is in for a meeting on Wednesday, as my owner is unlikely to have a hissy fit with the majority owner who really rules the roost in the room. This is in an effort to maintain his functionality by not depriving him of my services until necessary. Then he can procure my replacement from the hotel in Shreveport, as the auditor down there wants to come back here anyway. So everyone who is in the know is keeping it from those not and it has me kinda stressed out. My return to the DFW area will be on this Sunday coming up, Nov 16. Next week I will once again coming at you from Texas. I will have about a week before we actually take over operations, which will give me a chance to get my apartment set up (which my buddy has already rented for me!) and get settled in before going full tilt into my new position. Like I said, it will be an interesting week seeing if I can keep the fireworks and the tears down to a minimum as well as getting organized and packed for the trip back to Texas. The next question will be how long will it take my family to acknowledge I have returned to the area as they have never acknowledged the fact I moved to Arkansas nine months ago. Anyway, Wednesday also marks my statistical birthday here on the blog as the first statistics were gathered on Nov 12 2006, it is also my younger brother's birthday and hump day to boot. I will let you know Thursday how all this goes down. In the mean time, I thought you might like to cast a glance or two down the page for this week's sizzling edition of Monday's Model Men. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
