The Road Forward Begins Now

Sunrise On Tarsus

I cannot escape this feeling of joyous energy that has abounded since President-elect Obama (how I love the sound of that) was announced as the winner of the most important election in the last 48 years. The last time I felt this energized by an election was in 1960 when JFK won over Nixon. However it is a joy tempered by the realization of the work yet to be done by all of us for all of us. I spent most of the day yesterday either reading or watching the analysis, it was like I could not get enough. To say Mr Obama has invigorated the electorate would be one hell of an understatement at this point. However the Bigots are not giving up without a fight as witnessed by FL, AR, AZ, and CA where hateful measures were enacted by slim majorities. The good news there is the bigoted majority has shrunk over the last four years. It is only a matter of time before we finally have the votes to pass Gay Marriage in hopefully the entire nation but I will take it a state at a time too. I myself am not too hung up on the syntax or name. I just want all the benefits a citizen who pledges themselves to another for life should get both on local and national levels. Here are some photos from the Prop 8 protest in SF:

Last month I linked you to a post An Open Letter To My Gay Friend over at Bamboo Nation which was his post about Prop 8. His post today, Bitter.Sweet., is an excellent piece on the after math of Prop 8 as well as this treatise, We Don't Want Your Fucking Children, which is just as concise and bitingly funny too. Andrew Sullivan had a reader leave a very compelling comment on his post here. Gay marriage ban passes in CA, but is it legal? details the legal briefs filed in protest and the reasoning behind them, as in Un-Constitutional according to the We the People document itself. Also good reading are Michael Moore's What will it be like having a smart President? and Stephen Zune's The Hope of Obama with their feelings after such an historic election.

Last evening at work, my local buddy Will (as opposed to Will in Omaha) suggested I look up Andy McKee up on You Tube which I did . This artist plays acoustic guitar in one video then in the other two he plays what is named a harp guitar which is basically a acoustic bass and guitar welded together. The instrument has an unusual look but is played masterfully on these original instrumental videos.
