New Adventures In Computing,Part 2

The Day Begins

It is getting late in the day for me already so I am behind in getting this to you, but I had to get some errands done before I got all wrapped up and did not make it to the grocery store for the second day in a row. I was in desperate need of Dr. Pepper and a few other things as I had not made my trip to the store since pay day among other things. I had spent all day Thursday waiting for my computer's arrival and all day Friday trying to get it to work. Here it was midnight on Friday night with a Hot Rod Show at AllTel Arena that packed the place out and there were people everywhere all night long. Busy would have been nice, as it was I was buried in guests, customers and drunks and all manor of other folks that crawl out on the weekends and I had to do the audit as well. Add to this the really irritating habit of the phone constantly ringing when you are trying to check someone in putting a major kink in smooth operations in the middle of the night. Who in their right mind makes hotel reservations at 3:00 on Saturday morning? But I digress once again, for this is about my computer not my job (lol). Anyway, I was late getting off due to the paperwork involved in such a busy night, therefore I was all the more anxious to get home to see if I could finally get my new wonder machine to work. It was a smaller exercise in frustration but none the less stressful having had two hours sleep in now going on three days. But I promise there is light at the end of the tunnel (right after this word from our sponsors...big LOL)!!

I arrived home whereupon I proceeded to again attempt to get XP installed so I could get on with it. Alas it was not to be that easy. The install went normally and the computer booted right up to my great surprise. But that was just a tease, bitch! I got into windows where I began to myself up as administrator and all the other mundane little things one has to do when starting any product from the Evil Empire for the first time. I imported my theme from where I had stored it on D and it was beginning to look pretty good. I had downloaded some of the programs I did not have the .exe files for and installed those I did have them for starting with iTunes , I gotta have my music, ya know? Right in the middle of the iTunes download (it happens my .exe file had gotten corrupted) the computer died and the screen went blank . When I restarted the machine I got the blue screen of death before it even loaded windows. At this point, I was so tired and so frustrated I was beside myself. I got on the phone with Techman2020, I know I called him Tech guy yesterday but I looked at my receipt and I was wrong, sorry. So he assured me that it was not the kiss of death, just a temporary stop in hell. He advised me to take the computer down to the case and reinstall everything that plugs into the motherboard taking extreme caution to ensure all cards, cords, plugs, wires, weevils or whatever were properly seated, firmly inserted and locked into the motherboard and devices to which they were attached (groan!). He also told me if this did not work he would probably have to bring me a new power supply which thankfully is covered by the warranty. I was hoping it would work as I had no desire to play the waiting game for another delivery as tired as I was. And so I began to do as I was advised.

I took everything apart except the box. I had computer parts all over my room from two different computers and all the crap that goes in them. I slowly and carefully, piece by little piece, reassembled the entire computer from the motherboard on up. It was quite the experience in total immersion in the uncharted waters of the inner geek kingdom. I had been taking lessons in language from my geek buddy back when I was in Dallas and from Will (WS said I could tell you guys his name) since we had met but this was like speaking Spanglish in the Court At Madrid. I completed the assembly and once again I was ready to press the power button to see what would happen. The .ini sequence began and XP loaded up and lo and behold it said Welcome Uncle Gerry! That was a cum in my pants twice most welcome sign at noon on Saturday! I was so ecstatic after such a struggle to get to that point it was almost like a marathon sexcapade when you finally achieve orgasm together. I was finally the proud papa of a new computer that was just what the doctor ordered. I played for a little while but still had the opportunity for some 8 hours sleep before returning for work at midnight. What happened next is another story in itself which I do not have the time to recount here today. We still have to get to the entertainment portion of this broadcast. Which is coming right up.

WE begin today with some comic relief from a guy I know for a fact has Never once in his life set foot with in a 100 yards of a gay bar in Dance Lesson One "Feel The Rhythm", a great lesson I hope no young gay man ever learns. Angelique Kidjo is back with us today in a wonderful video showing the sights of Venice accompanied by the incomparable voice of this young lady with her song Salala, Venezia. Then all of you out there who enjoy checking out Davey Wavey's chest and abs will be delighted with his "Never Have I Ever" treatise. Once you have zipped up from watching Davey we get serious sorta when we have Lunch with Barack. We climax the evening concert with Baroque Impressions by jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut playing Johann Sebastion Bach's Invention No. 4 made funky! As if that was not enough for today I kept the expanded format for tonight's eye candy section to say thanks for sticking with me throughout all my little adventures. Be sure to stay tuned for, as Paul Harvey always says, the rest of the story. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
