Misadventures With Memory Sticks

Swaying Palms At Sunset, Micronesia

This has been a day of wasted effort. I got my eagerly awaited package from Walmart.com and true to my luck with upgrades of late, I had a series of misadventures on the way to disappointment. The memory sticks were there all shiny and new but I had unwittingly ordered DDR2 sticks and of course my PC users plain old DDR. So I think, no problem, run out to the superstore and exchange it for the right kind. I hop on the bus and get out to WalMart, have my package and receipt checked at the entrance and go in search for memory sticks. I find them hidden in a corner of the electronics department and of course they only have DDR2 stick in stock. So I go to customer service, get my money credited to back to my Visa and head over to Best Buy across the street to see what they had. The semi intelligent geekazoid who came up to speak with me could not understand why I did not want to pay $126 for one stick of memory when I had bought two on sale for$70. His only comment was "this stuff is just expensive". Duh! So I return home having wasted two hours and having no new memory as a result. The adventure was only beginning.

I stuck my memory sticks back in, started up the PC and immediately began having problems. The video driver glitched and would not let windows load so I had to uninstall my video driver in safe mode, restart and reinstall it. Then I couldn't get connected on the interntet, I ended up having to reinstall the software for the air card. All the while the graphics would glitch and I would have to repeat the safe mode, uninstall, restart, reinstall routine about 4 times before I became totally frustrated and reopend the box took all the cards out and re insertedd them all firmly before trying to again restart my computer. Thankfully it worked correctly and I got the graphics reinstalled and the computer back to where I was 6 hours earlier. So now Uncle Gerry is in a mood unfit for human consumption so I will just quit bellyachin and get to the good stuff. Until next time as always, Enjoy!

Have you ever tried the website "Geeks.com" for computer stuff? They usually have pretty good prices on all kinds of electronics, computer parts, etc. I've used them about 5 times now and been pleased with their service. Just this past week I got a new computer from them and in the past have bought a DVD burner and external hard drive. Usually takes about a week for delivery (I live in upstate New York).
Here's a link to their site:

Be careful to get the right type memory for your computer (PC3200, PC2700,184-pin, etc.) I'm sure you know this, but it's easy to get the wrong kind as they are so many different types.

I read your blog regularly, usually through the Feedblitz subscription sent to my email. That's why you don't see any comments from me. :)
I have a blog of my own, when I bother to update it. My old computer made it very difficult to do much of anything, but this new machine is doing great so far, so I hope to post more often now.
