Stormy Weather

Lake Powell, Arizona

It proved to be an interesting evening at work last night due to the heavy storms that traveled through our area. Lots of rain, thunder, lightning and a couple of tornadoes too. As is usual when people here in the south see a rain drop the put their rational minds on a shelf and get stupid for a little while. We have all seen the ones who drive 70 miles an hour in a torrential downpour only to either run off the road due to loss of control because of hydroplaning or hit some innocent person who has slowed down as a precaution and the first guy could not stop on the wet roadway. That of course really is a shame, luckily we did not have any loss of life on our freeways although there were some accidents. The guests in the hotel were not immune from the mind on a shelf syndrome as the storms approached reacting hysterically to the warnings and having to be calmly assured of their safety repeatedly. Luckily the tornadoes passed to the north of the hotel and we suffered no damage from the storms. But you could not tell from the number of people in the lobby crowded around the flat panel TV on the wall next to the front desk or the number of times the phone rang asking where the safest place to be during the storms. They used to teach common sense precautions when I was in school because I learned early on that doorways and bathtubs were imminently safer that standing next to a window to watch a tornado approach. They may not teach that any more for whatever reason but it would sure help if people stayed calm and thought for half a minute about the best place to move to in event of imminent danger. The really bad part of the storm passed to the north of us and the hotel was never in any danger. We did have some new arrivals that had trees fall on their houses farther north of us, but those guests seemed to be calmer than some of the hysterical people who were never in any danger to begin with. So the customer service skills of MM and I were stretched a bit during our shift but it all worked out in the end. Another line of storms moved through the area just as I sat down to write this and lightning did strike the ground just outside my door lighting up my windows at the same time the thunder crashed. It definitely got my attention but did no damage. Just yesterday I was watching Robins and Blue Jays play in the yard and I will probably see them again this morning as the storms will be long gone by then.

I have some video for you today. Wayne Besen from Truth Wins Out appeared on Bill O'Reilly the other night and mad Bill look stupid as he normally does, and then in the custom player we have the only Nuke snippet of the week, Barack Obama on Gay marriage, the latest Holly Oaks episode and a little teaser video with AJ and Landon in the Kitchen. AJ is the str8 guy who does Gay Porn from the MTV reality show True Life who told his family about his chosen profession. It should be another busy weekend around the hotel and I am hoping that we finally get to make our sojourn to the Razorback on Sunday. Coming up right below the videos is today's eye candy to get you set for the weekend. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
