Last Night, MLK And Tomorrow

La Play del Rio De Janeiro

Oh what a night it was last night. I just worked a short shift but it was an extremely busy shift. AllTel Arena is hosting the Women of Faith Conference today plus there has been a lot of storm damage in the areas around us. The ladies coming for the conference arrived all at once just as I walked in the door. The owner said can you clock in to which I said of course and away we went full tilt boogie from the git go. With at least 50 ladies in the lobby it was a challenge to be met. shift change was somewhat extended as it was done piece meal quickly between check ins. I knew it was going to be busy as the GM had informed me earlier and I knew it would go smoothly because I was working with MM. We work really well together as a team along with the owner and the assistant manager to handle whatever comes down the pike. I know there are those of you out there who have waited a table or two so you can probably relate a table of 4 ladies who each was paying their own tab multiplied by 15 all at the same time. As someone once said "times were getting stranger all the time" you can imagine some of the scenarios that could arise if ones staff were not prepared to go with the flow and just solve any idiosyncrasies that may occur. Add to that the folks whose homes are still without power or in the case of one guest have a tree fall into their home. You have a literal blitzkrieg of guests and the real trick is to get them all settle and satisfied in the shortest amount of time. Last night we not only handle the blitz but sold out the house by 6:40 Pm so we could only check in the remaining reservations as they arrived but could not take any more walk ins as every available room was rented. Now while there is no such thing as a shift without challenges therein lies the satisfaction of meeting that challenge head on and having everyone on both sides of the desk happy and satisfied. And as the Colonel used to say "I love it when a plan comes together" such was the experience last evening. Not only was everyone happy but the paper and the money came out balanced to a penny. You clock out and you know the team hit a home run in bottom of the ninth together as one. If you have to work then what more could you ask for on a Friday night in NLR? Today should see a repeat performance from last night's cast of characters with the reservations we have numbering nearly the same as tonight.

This next part is a day late but not a dollar short as it always pays to remember to honor the heroes of the past who have paid the price to bring us as far as we are today on the road to the promised land. I was still in high school when Dr King gave the speech in the video clip some forty years ago. I also like the quotation I got in an email.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have become gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically feels that he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season". Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

The boys of Nuke finally get some face time at Gwen and Will's going a way party in this next video. The bois and Ameera attend Gwen and Will's going away party with Luke's beard for the ICE.

Today and tomorrow are supposed to be sunny and warm. This means our excursion to the USS Razorback is on for tomorrow after services at Open Door. This should prove to be a really interesting experience. My time in the naval service was on aircraft carriers and air bases so I have never been on a submarine. For a history buff like myself especially of this period of time the Razorback represents is an experience to be relished and repeated. So tomorrow we will begin another journey of sorts to discover the wonders of the artifacts and historical venues this area has to offer. I will faithfully report my findings before the mast on the day after the morrow. Just as today I am faithfully reporting these findings in the hot man department for your portion of eye candy for today. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
