Green Room

Pacific Wave With Green Room

I have written in times past of random acts of kindness and the effects ones actions have in unintended places IE the pebble in the ocean effect. Yesterday's post "Video Philosophy" triggered a series of events like the pebble in the ocean. I cross posted the videos and most of the verbiage over at !!!One Love!!! along with the photo of the Surfers. I got an email response from a reader there saying the photo reminded him of another surfer named Cody. He also gave me the links to Cody's website and the fictionalized account of his life Green Room. Cody is no longer with us having died at the age on 19 in an auto accident. The story is a lengthy read, some 493 pages in a .pdf document. The title is a play on words as most folks think of the off stage area for TV guests to wait for their appearance. In this instance it means something totally different. In the foreword to what is essentially a book Green Room is defined like this: "It's surfer talk for the space under the curl of a breaking wave, where a surfer can glide along for a few seconds entirely surrounded by churning water, a special place to feel intimate harmony with nature." For Cody surfing was life and the Internet his connection to a world larger than the one in which he lived. The story is related by a gentleman such as myself who was a friend to Cody from afar. They never met f2f but that did not lessen their friendship. Cody first came on line at the age of 15 when he began to explore his budding sexuality. The gentleman's on line persona was "G" and he guided Cody in a long series of emails from age 15 up until the time of his death. I have not read the entire story, it may take me a day or two. From what I have read so far, I am hooked already. As my email buddy said it is a must read for any young man gay or straight. It is a coming of age tale from real life preserved in this highly portable format in the hopes that in the recounting of his life, some other teen will find his way in the world made easier. You guys know I am a sucker for things like this so I thought I would pass along the ripple I received back from the pebble I threw in the ocean in hopes you will pass it on to someone you know who might benefit from the book. I will be putting a permalink in the reads and links section in the side bar for both Green Room and Cody's website. So you never know what is going to happen when you toss that pebble in the ocean , someone may turn that ripple they receive into a random act of kindness and pass it right back to you or maybe along to someone who needs it more than you. You just never know, but then that is what keeps life interesting, no? Until next time as always, Enjoy!
