Super Surprise and Super Tuesday

In the build up to the big game, most media pundits declared victory for the Patriots and the crowning of Tom Brady as the greatest quarterback on the greatest NFL team ever. When Tom Brady woke up yesterday morning, he fully expected to collect another Super Bowl MVP prize and be crowned King of the football world. There was only one problem, someone forgot to tell Eli Manning and the Giants to genuflect at the alter in the Belichick Cathedral before kissing the ring on the finger of Tom Brady. It was the scruffy, much maligned kid brother of last years MVP not the matinee idol with the supermodel girlfriend who collected MVP honors (and a Escalade Hybrid). In a gutsy performance dominated by the defenses of both clubs most of the game the quarterback who spent more time on the ground was not Eli Manning. Tom Brady was harrased and harangued all day, getting sacked 5 times and knocked to the ground 9 other times. In the end Tom lost his cool and Eli kept his, leading the Giants on an 83 yard drive to the winning touchdown with 35 seconds left. Along the way Eli "pulled a Romo" escaping from a surefire sack and lofted the ball down field to an unheralded wide receiver who made one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history. In between three defenders, David Tyree leaped high in the air, trapped the ball between one hand and his helmet, gained control of the ball and landed on top of his defender with a 32 yard gain to keep the drive alive. Tyree had more catches and more yards than he had in the entire regular season plus he scored a touchdown which he had not done this year. Shortly after Tyree's big catch Eli Manning found Plaxico Burress alone in the end zone for a 13 yard score that put the epitaph on the Patriot's perfect season and sent Eli and the Giants to center stage to hold the Lombardi Trophy. High above the playing field in a luxury suite, Peyton Manning looked almost as ecstatic as Eli, jumping and shouting with the rest of the Manning family. In what was the most improbable of results, the New York Giants are now champions of the football world. What was surprising most of all was not the Giants win, but the game itself the most entertaining in recent memory, out shining Tom Petty in the halftime show and all the hoopla, glitz and glamor money could buy. It still came down to who made the plays on the field not who got the most press. On Sunday that would be Eli Manning and the New York Giants. I could never be considered a Giants fan as my NFL blood runs Cowboy blue and silver, but I must congratulate the Eli and the Giants on a job well done. The best team on the field won yesterday, it just wasn't the one everyone expected. That is why they play the game.

Tomorrow is Super Tuesday but I doubt the primaries will be anything near as entertaining as the Super Bowl. If you live in one of the states that has a primary tomorrow, be sure to make your choice known. The most disturbing piece of political news leading up to Super Tuesday, Ann Coulter said she would vote for Hillary if McCain gets the Republican nod. While not an avowed Hillary fan, I doubt she welcomes support from the Coulter Corner. The Republicans must be in worse shape than we thought if Coulter is jumping ship before everything is decided one way or the other. I do agree that McCain would be a better choice than the cultist Romney or God help us Fuckabee, none of them would get my vote in November even if hell froze over and they threatened to cut off my scrotum. That being said it will be interesting to see how the Democrats work it all out. Will it be Obama / Clinton, Clinton / Obama or one of the two with Edwards in tow. All I know is by the time November rolls around, I will be ready for all of them to STFU.

In economic news the money grubbers at Microsoft bid some $44 billion dollars for Yahoo!. In what may be considered a thumbing of the proverbial nose, Yahoo! may seek an alliance with Google rather than sell its soul to the greedy one with the glasses in Washington State. I personally think the Microsoft man has too much money and too much control over personal computing already and Yahoo! should resist selling its soul to the devil for 30 pieces of silver. You may disagree but that is how I feel about the matter.

So that is my take on yesterday and tomorrow, now I wonder what Monday has in store for us, surely it will be less entertaining and hopefully less momentous for all concerned. I leave you with today's selection of eye candy for your viewing pleasure. Until next time as always, Enjoy!
